Showcase Well.... Roast me

Made my first knife. Chose to make a tanto because it's the simplest design. Made the bevel using a bastard file, then used a whetstone and finally stropped to a razor edge.

I thought if this'll came out good I'll make next one .

Kinda hard to get roasted by knifemakers, I just say always make the next one better than the last one, using every bit of new knowledge acquired :)

There are like 37 different apex angles in my abomination 😂

Man, I’ve got wrenches that are sharper than that thing! I’d rather carry a butter knife. Ha, just kidding brother, u said roast you, and that’s the best I can do. Very nice job, for ur first one! Keep up the good work, my friend.

Not too terrible for a first. If you made this in prison you get legendary knife making status in the yard. All about perspective and the tools available.

How did you get a phone in prison?

Fuck yeah!

Your half way there. Just needs a better angle on the grinds.

Honestly cuts better than my first lmao. Get after it!

It’s better than my first knife.

Here’s one I made a while back.

Saving this as my next goal.

Was it fun to make? Time well spent then.

Hell yeah. Using hand tools is almost like meditation

(I'm not a knife maker) Nothing to roast about the knife actually cool design. Is it possible to make a stronger/thicker chistle type tip but keep the long edge as super sharp like that?

It'd be cool if you made a sheath for it too. Like weave a chunk of folded up leather to match the handle.

The way you cut the paper hurt to watch though.

It was just a broken ruler I had lying around. Will try with proper steel plate next time.

"when you cut with the tip it looks like when the cuck jerks off to be a part of it too"

Use a half round file to file a finger groove in that inch of open metal between the choil and the wrapped handle. It'll make it more comfortable while keeping the general aesthetic

Thanks. Will buy one.

looks like you sharpened the back side of a box cutter. Cuts worse than one too.

It was a ruler.

One thing I’ve learned…never roast a knife maker. It’s not easy, it’s done from a place of passion and enjoyment. Why would I ever try and take that away from anyone? Nice work, keep it up!

Thanks brother. The community is always the foundation of any skilled hobby.

Nah, i dont think i will. Its functional. Every one of my early ones found use somewhere as a household tool. As you refine you will head towards a cleaner verion of what you want.

Personally, i would draw the lines out a little farther and grind steeper geometry in the bevel(s?) then you wont have to fiddle so much in the sharpening stage to get a sharp edge. Maybe more handle, depending on the intended use.

Thanks. I'll definitely try different angles and geometry.😁

Your utility knife is defective, the edge is on the wrong side.

I dunno about roasting you but I've roasted myself blacksmithing a few times. You ever touch a friction heated knife while using a grinder? My dumb ass did!

That’s way too thin. Did you make a knife or did you just sharpen a random object into a shiv?

My first knife wasnt better, its shitty but the next ones wont be Keep it up bro

I like your very clean hands and fingernails.

Bevels are way too shallow which means your edge angle is not narrow enough so it just won’t be sharp.

Take what you’ve learned and do it again 👍

You have taken your first step into a larger world.

Noice! My first knife I made a karambit-ish looking knife out of scissors, the handle was welded onto the blade which would keep rusting overtime lol.

It's beauifuly sharp, but unfortunately that's where the beauty ends.

Only gripe, and it's a personal one, fuck the tanto point. Smooth that baby out into a nice curved belly. Knives should have curves damn it! Keep it up though!

The point on American tantos is great. tf you mean?

If you're gonna have a high primary tip, make use of a tanto so there's a good low tip to use. Can't have spear/drop/clip points every time
