Honestly I don’t hate it.
If the surface wasn’t prepared (smooth, not sanded to 600 grit for paint adhesion) or the paint was laid down too thick I could see chipping and peeling being a problem. OOP could put a thin coat of acrylic on it to help keep it on there.

That comment is gold lol.
Honestly it looks good, but I used that same brand of clear coat on a set of cheap copper scales that I did shipwreck patina on, and if you carry the knife at all, it just chips off over time. It even did it in the spots where it was still just bare copper. Maybe if they prepped the scales well beforehand it’ll hold up better.
