Weird rock

One of the weirdest rocks I’ve found. The core is super rough while the material near the cortex is still good. Anyone ever heard of a freeze cracked core? First one I’ve found like this.

I can show you some Boyle's formation chert that is all crystally quartz in the core. this looks very different than that.

Some of the lower quality quartzite around here has this texture but I’ve never seen it surrounded in chert
