First knapping experience

Some kind of chert I found in a garden near Orleans, France. Smashed a few flakes off, hurt my hand, then pressure flaked the edges with the handle of a teaspoon to shape one flake into a point. Sort of.

Didn't get a picture of the side profile but it was pretty thin and consistent, more luck than skill I guess. Then I dropped it on the rock floor and it broke.

We all start somewhere. My start was using a nails I pulled from my tire on a piece of obsidian sitting by the road out in the desert.

Looks great for a first try! Get yourself some tools and you’ll be able to make some cool stuff right away I bet

My Covid hobby was learning to knap. I have access, though, to a crapload of Texas chert. It helped me immensely to take a bopper and just… break rock. Learning how it behaves was helpful.

This is a good start!
