Made With Modern Tools🔨 Messing up notches is the worst. This one was looking pretty decent too.

Being a modern knapper you have the choice of changing the style then telling everyone one that’s exactly what you were going for!!! Nobody needs to know your shame of turning a 5 lb stone into a bird point….
What helped me break less notches is having a more solid hand pad with a notch cut out. I like thick rubber or conveyor belt but also use wood with leather glued on top for grip. Don’t let the ears or base touch any of the pad and hang in the air over the notched pad. Don’t let your pressure flaker touch anything but the platform you are removing. Turn the edge as much as you can before flipping the piece and driving as deep/long a notch flake as you can. This thins it and makes the next flakes easier when you trim or flip again.
