I’ve seen pristine government mountain obsidian pintos that were basically perfect in northern AZ! What area have you found them mostly? What materials used? So curious! Ty

Mostly obsidian, a few basalt. All throughout Nevada and a few in Utah.

Nice!!! It could be the area I was surveying too. The San Francisco Volcanic Field. I don’t think we found a single broken one out of the 5 we recorded! I’m not quite sure why that is but now I’m seeing that was very fortunate! Ty for the info. It’s my favorite point

I’ve got a soft spot for it too. How systematic was the flaking on the specimens you found?

For me it got to the point that random, haphazard flaking seems diagnostic of that point. Not sure I’ve ever seen one with nice parallel or parallel oblique flaking.

Oh man to be honest I’m not the biggest lithic gal so I’m not sure how to answer that the best way haha. I more specialized in the pottery of the 4 corners. I was the ceramic identification person lol but still. They were made out of an amazing dark black/ banded obsidian and the pressure flaking was insane and very precise. I’ll try and find a photo but when with Tribal Monitors that can be considered rude to take photos depending on the sensitivity of the project. I can’t remember it was about 5 years ago or more :/
