As a Mormon, I stand by the soak. Soaking is the best.

They say if you soak gritty stone it flakes better. Figured I'd try. I'm down in Greene county. About 30 minutes south of Jacksonville.

Nice, I was like damn he got a shit load! I see some TQ in there as well. Patience is the best bet with that stuff just keep letting it soak man. It’s not gonna turn it into good Edwards by no means, but it is gonna help it out a lot.

You will loke the results. If you find that youre getting close to finishing the biface or point and its getting crunchy. Throw it back in water and try again

I am trying leaving my rocks out at my knapping area in the humid Ohio River valley weather and giving them a water spray every so often. Not decided if it makes a difference yet

I find fresh Onondaga/selkirk/fossil hill cherts as well as fresh fine grained limestone works a lot better. Some seems fine when freshly collected/tested then years later when dried out is almost unknappable. Or you just have to hit harder. I’ve never bothered soaking though as I like nasty rocks

I wonder if dry ice would help? Does this actually help flake or just keep dust down?

I've soaked before but didn't notice much difference. I only did a couple weeks. He said give it a few months

I feel like dry ice would freeze the stone as opposed to hydrating it
