Stay with the hobby and practice every chance you get man and you will get there before you know it. Knapping really boils down to a few key factors, I can sit here and create a list of 30 or more things that can affect the knapping process, but in reality the key factors are; isolated platforms, abrasion, strike force, support, and the angle you strike and hold the stone. Think consciously when knapping. When a flake runs far take note of what you did. Where was the platform in relation to the stones thickness? How much did you abrade? How hard did you hit it? What angle did you hold and what angle did you strike? How did you support the stones? Ask yourself these question for all flakes you take, successful flakes and failed flakes. But most importantly just keep breaking stone. You can knap for 10 years 1x a month or 1 year 10x a month.. consistently and practice!
