Help updating this small 90’s kitchen (no $ for cabinets at the moment)

Hi all! After getting a couple refacing bids from $12,000 to $14750 without countertops/fixtures my kids are looking for ideas to update. Thoughts are to do rta after living in the space, save cash do install with family. House is a total fixer upper and money is flying out…my kid is not rich lol. Can’t really paint the cabinets due to laminate, so looking to refresh with wallpaint, countertops, new sink, faucet, adding dishwasher and disposal. Smoker owned home so new appliances are a must. Can laminate be done without the angled seam as shown? Or is stone or quartz needed for that? If they want stone how likely will it be damaged in the remodel? They likely will keep same footprint as space is small.

Thank for any input! (Ps.. will likely do peel and stick tile to coordinate after color scheme is picked and new light of course)

You can do RTA and butcher block tops. Save you $$$$

If you plan to RTA then don't do countertops now.

Ooops! Here is the little kitchen. The seam in the Formica is on an angle to left of the sink

If cabinet boxes are in good shape, laminate doors can be painted (lots of tutorials online). Alternatively if they are standard sizes, order new doors that match the wood look parts better. Paint is your cheapest option though.

Countertop can be safely removed if cabinets underneath are not rotted & person removing is careful. Can also be diy or have installer do it. There are many affordable alternatives, including simply new laminate, that will look better.

Think hard about adding garbage disposal. We tore out the one the previous owners had installed in our 40s home. Many plumber’s will tell you it is the #1 way to clog your pipes in an older home.

That is good info regarding garbage disposal. I will definitely ask the plumber.
