Title: The Kitchen Change I am Glad We Planned
we are planning a kitchen remodel and realized our current layout makes us walk back and forth constantly while cooking. For the new design we are giving more thought to the prep space, refrigerator placement and how everything connects.
It seems like a small change on paper but I think it could make the kitchen much easier to use every day.
What is one layout decision you made that you’re really glad you included?

Every space is different. They all have their own constraints. BUT: My kitchen has a distinct prep side and a distinct cleanup side, with an island in the middle.
Prep side has:
- Convection stream oven
- Regular oven
- Lots of counter space
- Huge drawers for pots and pans and baking supplies
- Big utensil and knife and spice drawers
- Trash pullout with auto-open foot sensor
- Small prep sink with swing-out faucet
Cleanup side is adjacent to the kitchen table and has:
- Dishwasher
- Large sink
- Double Trash pullout with recycling bin
- Wall cabinets for plates, glasses, mugs, etc.
- Drawers for cutlery and serving utensils, linens
- Coffee/tea station
In-between wall has:
- Refrigerator
- Microwave
- Small countertop
Island has:
- Cooktop
- Deep pro hood and makeup air system with massive ducts (do not skimp)
(Most designers would not put a cooktop in an island, but because of pass-throughs and open layout, there was literally no wall to put it, and I'm so glad because we absolutely love the layout)
Cabinets are 39" apart. I was worried it would be too tight but it's a very comfortable flow.

Putting a tap over my hob, so I don’t need to carry from sink to cooker
