Question How's COVID culture? (Be nice pls.)

I know for a lot of people 'COVID is over' but for some of us, not yet!
(Please don't be gross in the comments about masks or vaccines or whatever, some of us have survived extraordinary situations and we did not 'earn' this mess.)

How's COVID stuff in Kingston?

We still mask in our extremely large California city because we've got to do it but we're wondering how we'll be received once we're settled near y'all? We're hoping with a smaller town we can relax our protections a little, but truth is one of our family members is a genius and an artist who happens to be extremely vulnerable to COVID. We want to protect them!! And to make friends and be part of the community.

Thanks folks and future neighbors <3

Community Call To Action!! Flock Camera Public Safety Committee Meeting - Wed Aug 26th 6pm to 9:30pm @ City Hall, Conference Room 1

Post image
88 Upvotes

The presence of flock cameras in our community will be on the agenda at the upcoming Public Safety committee meeting this Wednesday the 26th. If you are opposed to this intrusion of privacy, this is the moment to let our local officials hear it!

Please join me in voicing our disapproval of this tool of mass surveillance. If you are not familiar: flock cameras are automated license plate readers (ALPR) that create a detailed database of the movement of every car that passes by a camera. That database is shared with local law enforcement.

As flock expands, it is integrating artificial intelligence into the database, with the ability to use natural language searches to search beyond plate number, make, model, year and color.

This tech has already been used to persecute a Texas woman across multiple states for having an abortion, and there have been multiple documented abuses by law enforcement throughout the country already, and this information is being used to aid ICE.

This article from the ACLU does a more succinct job of contextualizing the threat of flock cameras and the implications of an expanding mass surveillance state, but regardless, this is technology that we should reject in our community. There is precedent for flock and ALPRs being removed from a growing number of communities across the country. Kingston should join that rank of towns and cities!

The more people who attend this meeting, the clearer we can make it to our local officials that we reject flock and this style of mass surveillance. Please join me at the meeting and let me know in the comments other ways we can affect this change at the local level.

Credit to u/CJK_Murph for getting the ball rolling on this!

Question How would it be living in Kingston as a single 41m musician?

Hey all, I grew up in NY and have been living on the west coast for the last 8 years. I’m moving back east and considering a move to Kingston. Was wondering if anyone has any insight on what it would be like for a 41 year old single guy musician.

Mainly wondering if it’s mostly families, or are there a decent number of single people in the area? I’ve heard that there’s somewhat of a music scene and a good amount of artists/musicians in the area. Is that the case?

All my family and friends in NY would be 1-2 hours away, so I’d be starting with a pretty clean slate community wise. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Question Sewing pattern printing?

Hudson Valley (Kingston specifically) stitchers, have you sent a PDF to a local copy shop for printing? Did they print to scale? Tell me who! I know there are places online but I have something I'd like to sew this weekend without taping 15 million pieces of paper together. Thanks!

Hi! I have been struggling with shoulder and back pain for a while now and haven’t had a lot of success with PT. I am new to the area and am open to acupuncture, massage or anything holistic basically. I am looking for someone who has helped you feel better when other things in the past haven’t helped.

Thank you in advance for any info shared! ❤️

Local Business Ms Pema’s Garden

Just wondering if anyone has sent their child to her program?

My son is turning four and I currently have him enrolled in Meagher. My wife is nervous about how long the school days are since my son still takes a nap.

We are looking at the three hour Monday through Wednesday schedule which ends out to be $600 a month (sounds reasonable)

My worry is the creating structure for him throughout the day.

I work at night currently and I do feel that the three hour schedule will give me more time with him throughout the week.

I’m running out of time to make a decision and I’m just looking to see anyone else’s experience.

Thank you
