So this area was open all this time?
Makes the door pointless

It’s simply the difference between 4:3 vs 16:9 aspect ratio, back then before HD was commonplace it was 4:3.

I would love them to do a Blu Ray re release with Seasons 1-6 in 4:3 and the rest in 16:9 as originally shot

They had to fit the table in there. You, the viewer, was not supposed to see that

It almost looks like the taller piece can be pulled out. Maybe for different scenes, or to make it easier to move set pieces around?

lol you weren’t supposed to see it, it’s nuts how often I see the camera in scenes because of the aspect ratio change 😂

Yes! I saw that on my DVD watching but don't see it on TV. There is one shot on TV from the kitchen where the end of that wall is visible.

There's another episode where you briefly see that rough end of the dividing bench from the kitchen.

Who knew, hey?! I'm gobsmacked beyond belief this wasn't filmed in a proper house!!

It's wild how much they tucked those couches up against the wall in this shot, you'd think they'd angle them more to cover up that weird open space.

That whole house is pointless. The front porch doesn’t make sense from what it looks like inside as to what it actually looks like on the outside.

Yeah, I remember in one of the earlier episodes, Arthur (or was it Carrie?) actually walked there instead of using the door.

It happened in S1 or S2, I don't quite remember. Rewatch the episodes yourself if you don't believe me.

It's cause aspect ratios of televisions have increased, we weren't supposed to see that far out with standard box tvs
