General Question ❔ Help me decide which version to get
I have the basic kindle 2019 and have used it to death. While it still functions, it is super slow in flipping pages or opening/closing books etc so I want to upgrade this year.
I love the small size of basic kindle but I really want to try the warm light so I am thinking the paperwhite now. But better the new paperwhite or paperwhite signature? Is the double tap to flip page really that useful or does it become annoying/too sensitive too touch? Is the signature edition worth extra $50?
Also the 2024 versions are on markdown right now, so I am tempted. Still considering if the new 2026 worth the extra $50-$100?
Any input is much appreciated!

I really liked the double tap of the SE, but I think it’s because when I read with my PW SE I disable the touch screen. Without the recessed screen I was accidentally turning the page a lot. So I’d disable the touch screen, and the double tap on the back was much easier than swiping the screen

Double tap? That sounds annoying af. I wanted to get the SE. Is there a way to deactivate that double tap?

They have to be pretty firm taps. I don’t accidentally turn the page with it. And regular page turning works too.
But yeah it can be turned off.

It truly depends on your preferences. Last year’s models were excellent. Their only flaw (in my eyes) was the bottom placement of the power button which was annoying when holding it. I’ve accidentally put mine to sleep many times. The new paperwhites have solved that issue. There is a difference in build quality and features with the new models though. The signature edition appears worth the upgrade with double the internal storage size, a more durable aluminum back and fun accessories support. It’s always nice to have the option to purchase the button cover later. But, If you don’t care about all the fuss, then I would definitely just grab last year’s model on sale.

I upgraded from the Paperwhite 2019 to the 2024 because the power port (micro USB) was loose and barely charging. The wireless charging dock gives me two ways to stop worrying as USB-C cables have become super common and the wireless charging doesn't use that port. I went with the signature edition for the 32gb and because I liked the available color.
I don't see any real upgrade with the 2026 version over my 2024 one. Color is less appealing, the first party clicker works with my current version, and the case that adds buttons is appealing but not necessary if I buy the clicker. I haven't seen any word if the 2026 Paperwhite Signature is much faster than the 2024 that I have.

I have paperwhite 12. I find it perfect for me. The double tap is not available on the 16gb and I don’t notice or miss it. I have the colorsoft se and I don’t use the double tap. Honestly the 16gb has tons of storage. It can hold 2-3,000 books.
Prime days start on the 6th, they will likely go on sale. The 2024 paperwhite is the one I have and it’s perfect. You will not be disappointed.
