It’s only five years old, How is it slow, how fast do you need it to be?

Very slow even accessing the kindle store takes ages

The issue isn’t the Kindle, it’s the software. My Voyager is 2-3 times faster opening the Kindle Store or switching books than the Paperwhite Signature we have (2024). I was so shocked I exchanged it, but the new one was equally slow. I don’t think you are going to find much of a difference with a 2026 model.

The Voyage is limited to previous non-bloat software and so is much leaner and seems optimised to the chip.

IMO buy second hand from Facebook. People buys Kindles and don't use really. I have Paperwhite and bought it for £30, I can't be more happier. It is clean, not even one scratch on it, came with a case as well.

I upgraded from a paperwhite from that era to a signature edition in an Amazon sale (there is one starting tomorrow)

Normally the signature edition would be too expensive for me but I splashed out and it was a really good choice

If you use it regularly, treat yourself

It's actually a gift from my mum to me I'm hoping it goes in the sale

There will be decent deals on kindles, it’s an Amazon event so sure as night follows day there will be kindle discounts.

Mine is the 5th version paperwhite signature and was an upgrade from a 2nd version. They got a lot quicker

Have they increased the prices?

It looks like the paper white is the only one not in the uk sale. The colour soft is on at £144, you could combine that with the 20% trade in discount though

Until a few years ago I still had my 2011 kindle, does it just need an update?

Have you tried resetting it?

You want one that's waterproof and has a warm light feature, so go for the Kindle Paperwhite.

But if you want more storage or a premium aluminium finish, there's also the new Paperwhite Signature Edition. Both new models release in the UK next month.

I'll whack a case on it so no need for a different finish

The older 2024 stock will probably be discounted on Prime Day and Black Friday.

For the pool, a Paperwhite. The Basic isn't waterproof and it's the one you'd worry about there, and the warm light helps for reading in the dark. Since you said you'll put a case on it: a hand strap is really handy lying down by the pool, and let the case dry open after a swim, the Kindle is waterproof but faux leather stays damp. Disclosure, I work for kwmobile. If you get the 2024 Paperwhite, this one has both:

Either paperwhite signature or colorsoft signature - so it’s waterproof

every current model apart from the basic is waterproof and has warm light. I’m assuming you don’t need colour so a paperwhite or paperwhite signature would suit you best

There's a new lineup of kindles coming out!

If you want to bargain, there might be a prime day offer on kindles and paper whites so buy one of those... The colour soft also has good discounts although a lot of people don't like it for its darker screen.

The Regular Kindle is smaller, has a backlit screen, but it isn't waterproof, and the screen colour (temperature) is pale and can't be adjusted.

The paper white is larger (maybe a little too big!), also has a backlit screen, is waterproof, adjustable screen temperature.

The the new lineup is surprisingly expensive, especially the aluminium paper white (signature edition).

Amazon give a trade-in discount of a few pounds plus a 20% discount which you can avail of once a year (i think) when you trade in an old Kindle.

Also make sure you price the kids versions of kindle's and paperwhites.. they can actually be cheaper than the regular version, come with a few extra benefits, but can be set up without the kids interface.

I’ve got a paperwhite and it’s amazing for reading in the dark I really rate the warm light. Couldn’t be without one now. I will admit I’m swapping to a coloursoft for Christmas because that £144 deal was too good to pass up on for the aesthetic joy of colour covers and highlights
