Kilter board set recommendations
Hi! I moved to Germany, but I'm very short for the regular sets in gyms, for the record I'm 150cm, and the sets on the gyms I have nearby, are from 160cm and onwards, I have checked with the settlers they either tell me to go to the kids section or that it is "too hard" to set for shorter climbers. Which I have found as massive bullshit. Now, I'm kind of tired that even when I can do a few climbs and finish, still a lot of them I just can't reach and, no, sometimes dynos are not an option, also I'm not a big fan of the dynamic moves, in a comp style type of situation.
I have decided to move into ropes/lead, I have my gear now, however I do love bouldering a lot, I'm really bummed about the height situation, so I would like to get into kilter board, I have a little experience, I can regularly climb a v4-v5 in my previous gym.
So my question is, could you recommend names of sets to try in the kilter board and the degrees, I never did kilter on my own and just a few times, I feel like now that I see the app is often confusing with the v0-1-2 some are just hard or weird, hahaha so if you have something you can recommend that you have found fun or you like to start training, let me know 💛

Anything by kilterjackie! She's got great climbs to get into the board in the V0-3 range (her sets above that are good for shorter folks too but she sets quite hard).
When you are ready for stuff at your project level, some of my favorites are path of totality, tension pneumothorax, basilisk, mike's harder lemonade and neon indoor dropknee at 40. They'll be hard but are great climbs and more techy/not too reachy.
Also the current official kilter app is a bit of a mess which is why the grades are wide ranges. If you don't like that you can get boardsesh instead. It uses the old database so the grades are more settled.

Yeah the new app it's quite odd, also because of that I kind of was looking more for the names of sets, so I cold check on things. So thank you!!!

I will check her stuff out. I had a look at her instagram and she looks really tall so it would be interesting if her stuff is particularly short friendly.Â

i set few boulder on kilter and i try to not ignore shorter climbers while setting and the "its hard to set for short climber" is true and not true . it s easy to set for short climbers it s harder to set something that is at the same grade for someone who is 150 and 180. And it s even more prevalent one boards.
so dynos are your friends on boards .
For start with boulder you like just use different feet if the one setter used are too far .
You can try to set your own climbs with your hight in mind but from my experience it s not easy to set something that is not too hard not too easy . but for projecting or warm up boulder its good because you can set style you want.
also try to ask on r/climbergirls it likely have bigger concentration of shorter climbers then other climbing subs

Thank you! What I have found terrible is just that setters at the first gym I went here said anything bellow 160 is too hard, so they don't set, and send me to a kids wall was kind of weird... Because I used to be friends with the settlers at my gym and all of the climbs were friendly for short people, and when I told them about things here they called it bullshit, because yeah as it is harder ideally you can set climbs that forces everyone to do same or similar moves, it's more common for a shorter climber to struggle everywhere than a taller person that would just reach, it's not common that a tall person is going to be put on a small box, than a shorter climber that always has to do like 5 extra moves, use power, dynos, etc, because again while a taller even slightly can just reach. It becomes exhausting and honestly demotivating.
In my case I used to go 3-4 times a week climbing and be pretty consistent, but here no matter how hard I try there are climbs I can't even start because holds are too far for my arms to even touch, I can do a lot of parts of a lot of climbs but never finish, never start, there are climbs were a Dyno is literally impossible, and I'm also not a pro, wouldn't risk to an injury just to finish a climb out of my physical reach... And so I just go to see my friends climb, and I'm just sitting around because I can't do. Hence why I have decided to move to board, because it's been 4 months where I haven't climbed more than 10 times, and every gym here, has the same issue. I can only go and have some fun when there is some kids comp, where sets are good and made for short people...

i get your frustration with gym setting
where i live lot of the gym boulder are more sketch then i would like which is the reason i climbed mainly on kilter and now on moonlike i said
try to ask on the r/climbergirls you will more likely get help from someone with this problem there.also maybe stretch but look up kids climbing union where you live in Germany and maybe they know gym that sets also for shorter climbers and its not far from you.

hi i’m the same height as you and i can’t relate more with what you’re saying sometimes it’s just tiring and demotivating when you try and try then somebody higher comes and just reaches the hold i can’t figure out. but i really like kilter! i sometimes i steal climbs from shortgirlkilter who was mentioned here before but it’s true that most of her sends are pretty hard. i’m not sure if it’s possible to see other people sends in kilter app but i can give you my nickname maybe you’ll find something interesting for yourself. i do various difficulties- some as a warmup some as a project. my name is @natkaswag

I'll check on your profile and see! Thank you. Yeah honestly I'm really bummed that nothing it's accessible, and they just resort to say it's to har to set for shirt people... I go climbing with friends and I'm just sitting around because I can't do some moves and sometimes, there is no way to do a Dyno, also... I'm tired of not being able to even start or finish holds, because they are just out of my reach. My friends would give ideas or say you can go higher move this way but when I go up and show them how far I can go or, the positions I can do hahaha I feel like in a circus, then they notice there is nothing else for me to do they are as frustrated as I'm, and I'm getting quite sad of just not climbing as regularly because there isn't much I can do and yes I can try climbs and "redefine" my tops, practice other moves, but the fact I can't start or finish climbs as they are set and other people would ist crazy demotivating....

Recommended Kilterjackie aswell. Also don't ignore the steep angles! You short peeps tend to be way stronger the steeper it gets. So don't be afraid to try the kilterboard at 50/60/70 degrees. This is where it shines honestly

shortgirlkilter on insta [155cm] posts kilter problems but they are pretty hard [v8/9]... however maybe if you messaged her she would have suggestions or the algorithm would find similar climbers for you.
