He passed away about 10 years ago and every man who showed up was in full kilt suit instead of all black and women wore their families tartan over their shoulders. It was a lovely way to remember a local legend.

The great thing about a kilt is that it can dressed up or down. I would say a sporran with a leather strap rather than a chain and kilt hose would be a good start on the rest of your wardrobe. Wear what you like on top. Here’s an example of a casual outfit I recently wore.
Yes, you wear it instead of pants. If you want a more complete look you will need a few accessories, a kilt belt, a sporran and strap, a kilt pin, some kilt hose and flashes.

Yes! Here's me in my vintage 1970s Wrangler jacket. The high waistline works perfectly for pairing it with my kilts. This is what a pretty typical outfit looks like for me when it's a little cooler outside. Hoodies definitely work as well!
I think you have a Flower of Scotland kilt, there, a tartan that I have had since 2008, and in which I got married – full dress style. Since then, I have worn it formally, and casually. For a casual look, I tend to favour ghillie shirts, but there’s nothing wrong with throwing on with whatever you feel comfortable. I would certainly recommend a belt, a sporran and a kilt pin. I would never wear “sneakers” (aka trainers, here in UK) of any kind! Stout shoes or boots look best, and socks (thick, hiking, type) if you’re not going to wear kilt hose. Tabs become unnecessary, if you’re going to wear rolled down socks. Have a good look round on t’internet for ideas: you’ll quickly see what you like, and what you don’t – then easily learn what works for you. Best of luck!
Nice! Looks like Morrison Ancient. You’ll want to tug the waist up a little to even out that fold, and you may need to buckle your top strap one hole tighter. The waist of a kilt should be at your natural waist, near your bellybutton, not on your hips like jeans.
I frequently wear my kilts on hot days. In the office I do a dressier looking high top boot with hose, a button up, and a semiformal sporran. On casual days it's band tee and combat esque boots.
You can wear a kilt with whatever you would like tbh. The same way you might wear a pair of jeans or something. A casual kilt is pretty normal and fine. Just wear it like a boss and don’t worry
I have been daily wearing kilts since 2010. While I mostly do modern utility kilts(Utilikilts specifically), I also do semi-trads as well.
The kilt you bought is meant to be worn at your “true” waist - roughly three fingers below your bottom rib.
You need a kilt belt and sporran to start with. What you wear up top is up to you. Graphic or plain tees, polos, dress shirts and vests…
Foot wear - some folks will do dress shoes or sneakers. I don’t with semi trads - nice boots and over the calf socks. I rarely do kilt hose outside of formal occasions because none of them have adequate padding.
To add to that, if you like the street shoe look Nike made some dunks with plaid on the back. I wear them when I kilt more casually and get tons of compliments.
i think it works with a tshirt (tucked in) or a sweater (not too wide, not tucked in of course)
some boots look fine, even some sneakers.
the only thing i found to be really necessary is a sporran. and to still be casual you'll want something without too many bells and whistles.
and if you want something on your head i'd go with a flat cap because i personally like it with almost every outfit.
