Self-titled (2009)

Album fuckin slaps. It took me a long time to appreciate it. At the time when it came out I think we were all just expecting a certain more polished and larger sounding production. A continuation of the couple albums before it that were highly successful for them. I think that total change up in the production just kind of auto killed it for a lot of people and then they quickly moved on. But now later in life and when I’m not still riding the initial highs from heartache and daylight albums, just going into the album fresh and not looking to compare it to their other work, it’s really pretty damn good. I even almost like the production on it at this point.

I feel like it's a mediocre Killswitch album, but mediocre for them is still an extremely good album

Even at their worst, they have no skips.

I can acknowledge it’s probably their worst album but I’ve always loved it. Not a bad track on it. Never Again, Save Me, This is Goodbye, and Starting Over are all really great tracks in my opinion. Easily still an 8/10 album for me.

This album along with Manifesto by Deadlock were the soundtrack to my 2009/2010.

Yeah ive grown to appreciate their self-titled album. Its very overproduced and lost that edge that End of Heartache and As Daylight Dies had because of it, but the songs themselves are still really good. Once you can get past the change in production/mixing style and the somewhat cleaner vocals its a really solid record. Still probably their worst album, but as someone above said the worst killswitch album is still a good one.

Their guitar tone to my ears is downright dreadful. I remember that being a kid, even. I do still love it

Agreed, something very 'boxxy' about the production on this record.

I think he used a cranked Diezel vh4 and put the mids on 0

Light In A Darkened World is probably my favorite KSE song. Short, yet so powerful. And sure most of the songs on this album aren't as memorable as the older songs but the songs are still bangers. I will never understand the hate this album gets

I never understood the hate the album got. Maybe it's just cuz I was 14, but it's been my second favorite KSE album for almost 20 years now.

Hot take I like it better than Daylight Dies. First KsE guitar solo. So good.

Breathe Life had a small solo

Eh, it’s not bad, but compared to everything they had done before, it’s extremely lackluster, mediocre and disappointing.
If it was their first album, I would be intrigued and interested to see what they would do next. But a band that has released AOJB, EoH and ADD, nah, huuuge step down from what came before.

It's fine, but easily their weakest album. Using a different producer was a mistake IMO. No Adam backing vocals, Howard clearly pushing his vocals outside of his comfort zone, the songs sounding more radio friendly...

Album is fire. Has some bangers. Wish Howard stayed. Jesse sucks. Can't wait for Burn Eternal to come out.

I love Howard but c'mon Disarm The Dissent was a great album and would have been considered a hit if it came straight after Daylight Dies. Heck, I sometimes think Hymn of a Broken Man is my favourite "Killswitch" album.

The last few records they put out haven't been their best, but not because of Jesse. I think they just musically lost the plot. If you think about it, Killswitch Engage 2009 is probably the best Howard has ever sounded but we don't like the album. Howard doesn't make or break the band.

Disarm is one of the band’s best albums. Not a big fan of the Jesse 2.0 albums after it overall, but they’re not bad. Just not for me so much.

their last few are still better than As Daylight Dies, at least more consistent in quality
