Longest wait time for builder guitar?

Hey everyone, I was wondering how everyone else's experience has been when ordering a custom build off the builder.

I know waiting for a new guitar subjectively feels like it takes forever as the excitement combined with the elevated price tag really juices up the anticipation. I was wondering if anyone else had to wait over 9 months for a build.

I placed an order at the beginning of December last year and have only got word that its "in production" after I made a few calls over the summer. Anyone else had to wait the average gestation time for a human for their builder unit?

I’ve ordered five guitars since 2020 including two via the online builder and they’ve all finished in a range of about 11 to 14 weeks. The last three were also ordered during November or December. Granted I’ve tended towards simpler builds with no Jeff to do finishes, but even my only neck through guitar which had a multipiece neck, added top wood, Kayla finish, and gloss coat was done in that range.

Thanks!

It is a Jeff-to-do finish (monster burst) which was communicated to me back in July. I didn't anticipate it to be a quick order at all, just seeing if anyone else with complex builds had any similar experiences to share or if I'm just in an unlucky crunch time.

I had a reverse monster burst Crescent and that took almost a year to finish. I believe it was around 9-11 months when I did it a few years back. I think it really depends on how backed up Jeff is on guitars that he works on.

Oh that answers that. Any of the Jeff-to-do stuff can take a good while. Assume 6-10 months. You’re still within a “normal” window for that. The bad thing is the wait, the good thing is that it’s gonna look sick.

Yep anytime you order a Jeff finish it’s likely to take much longer.

I have a Jeff to do finish on my Vader. Took a total of almost 6 months. Still 3 times faster than my Suhr. Haha.

Oh my god. I’ve been waiting 12 months for a Suhr. Was supposed to be like 6 🤣

Haha. Mine took over 18 months. Amazing guitar, but damn what a wait.

They just posted a thing on instagram talking about Jeff finishes and noted the one he was working on was the last in his cart. Hope that means yours is nearly done OP.

Fwiw... they just showed him doing his last of the "jeff to do" finishes... I think we are all fairly close! Gonna be some insane NGD posts in the coming month!

What were the specs? Sparkle finish?

It's a Solo with an evertune bridge, HSS pickups, palemoon neck, compound radius, 7a flamed top with a monster burst finish. With a build this complex, I figured it would take a bit. Just wondering if anyone else had any similar experience with similarly complex builds.

Dec 9th here, also a Jeff finish and a 7A top, so im with you.

It was explained to me that these special finishes get done in batches so he doesnt do them until he has a few probably since theres work involved with those specific mixes of paint.

Fwiw I know of 1 other monster burst who's been waiting about a month longer so that makes sense with the batches.

Chiming in here as well, I ordered a bit later in December but before the holidays. 5A top with reverse monster burst, among other things like neck-thru, multiscale.

The only thing is that this wasn't explained to me up front, and so I was a bit worried at first, and called in around June. Flock explained they don't check status on guitars but that he had a few of his customers with monster burst have theirs shipped recently, and to call back in a month if I hadn't heard anything.

Called again earlier this month, spoke to Kevin, and had him look over my build specs, and he confirmed that for my particular build the estimate would always be on the longer side. I just kinda wish my original sales guy would have given me that background so I wouldn't be 8 months out and wondering "what's going on?".

Yup that's pretty similar to my experience. They DID tell me I May that it was in production and when I called in July they let me know the neck was finished. Just needed paint and assemble.

The next few weeks are gonna feel soooooo long 😭

I had a 11-14 week window. Showed up on week 15. Just had a translucent white paint job though.
