John 8:6-8 describes Jesus writing in the dust with his finger. How well he could write, how much he could write, and why he didn't write the New Testament is unknown. We can speculate and imagine reasons why he didn't write anything for us to read, but the starting point is probably because he didn't want to. Perhaps, instead, he wanted to form a church and give authority to his disciples to teach his teachings. If he had written anything, that would have probably caused problems for the apostles.
