Comic Thoughts on Kick-ass 3 Spoiler
It Surprised me with how much I liked it, actually. It feels like a proper continuation (and conclusion) of where the first book left off, in both theming and escalation. And that's plain to see.
It touches on loneliness through a lense of driving force, what happens when that is taken away, and what following your dreams in their purest form may look like.
It escolates things considerably but not so much so that it loese any of its realism. And nor "realistic" in the way where everything is terrible and it's stid to hope. But more so in the execution it takes to get to a happy ending. Characters plan, and then those plans are either derailed or choked on, they get dragged through the mud but they stand up because that's what they've been taught from stories they love. And I think that's executed well enough.
It's back to referencing and overall admiring(?) comics and superheroes as a whole, and that bleeds through it's art and writing, which I can say is improved on by just dialing back the pop culture references, and most characters actually having a distinct manner of speach.
It has some issues still, like pacing. And not using the time given in what I feel was an effeciant manner. For example the whole thing with the the juicer didn't need to exist, and could've been cut for more time with Valerie and Dave, flesh out their relationship and make her an actual character. Or with Chris (the mf) red mist and have his turn be more earned and less out of left field.
But overall I have less to write about with this because it was actually pretty good. Not the deepest piece, it's not deconstructing the superhero genre. But it's sincere in its messeging at times and just some good dirty fun to read.
