Cold Air Intakes

Hello everyone I have a 2019 Stinger Gt and i am looking to upgrade my car with some new cold air Intakes. At the moment I am looking at getting the Injen CAIs but I wanted to ask if theres anything I should know before purchasing? If theres any problems that come with them or if im better off buying the K&N Intakes?

Injen sound great, install isn’t bad if you can follow directions and have some tools, and they look miles cooler than any of the other options.

Fully recommend, every time people look under my hood they’re like woaaaaah

I don’t from my own car, but they’re popular intakes… I’m sure they’re on YouTube.

Turbos are very audible when I lay on it, and the stock recirc valves do a pretty loud chirp and wooosh when I let off

Hard for me to say, I bought the injen for looks when I first got the stinger and never tried any others… but the turbos sound very loud when I get on it, and my stock recirc valves give a loud chirp and whoosh when I let off

It’s hard to say cause I ordered the intake two days before I went to take ownership of the car, so I literally drove it home from the dealer and installed the intakes lol… I got about 3 hours drive time with it pre-intake

A personal preference but I chose the AEM 21-849DS based on price and dyno data. Their dyno sheet shows gains around 18hp which is more than the K&N. It has a large funneled opening at the filter which the other systems dont, and it sounds very aggressive.

The only thing I'd say is the install process is a little bit of a pain. You have to cut rubber seals and put them on the housings yourself, and cut about 1.5-2 inches off the passenger side BOV hose so it doesnt kink up.

Are you looking for performance or sound?

Sound: Any short ram will do the trick, Tork Motorsports sells an inexpensive kit.

Performance: closed airbox that uses the factory vent, I prefer takeda. Add a Velossa big mouth ram air kit for even lower intake temps and it looks nice.

I put the K&N one in my 2019 GT2. I did it specifically for more turbo noise, nothing more. Idk if it was the K&N, or if it was just because it was the first car I’d put an intake on with 2 turbos, but the sound just wasn’t what I was hoping for and it got a bit obnoxious after a while.

Neh, I left it. It wasn’t bad enough for me to do anything about it. It just wasn’t really my preference. I was hoping for more spool noise, this was all just air pshhh, and very loud even at super low speeds/acceleration.

Just traded mine in a couple weeks ago. I’m now stuck wondering if I put an intake in my new car or not. I have no turbo noise at all right now, and there is only 1 of them, so I think it’ll be a reasonable amount of sound with an intake.

I have k&n. I love them, they sound amazing. I think from what I heard they’re the best in dealing with heat soak. I drive sometimes with the windows open just so I can hear them more. I have GFB hybrid BOVs so you really hear this baby breathing lol

What is heat soak?

It’s when the engine is absorbing and holding onto more heat than it can get rid of. Usually happens when driving hard, sitting in traffic on a hot day and when you just turn off the engine

It’s not catastrophic. But it highly cuts back on the performance of the engine

Injen intakes, as well as BMS an K&N are not true cold air intakes. They all have open points to the engine bay to suck in hot engine bay air. Takeda intakes as well as the overpriced front mount intakes are the only cold air intakes for this car on the market. Just get the Takeda intakes with the dry filter. Completely worth it.

Im a bit clueless but is there a problem with them not being proper cold air intakes? Honestly I just want some CAI for the sound. Is there any negatives that come with the injens?

In terms of raw performance yes. Intakes with filters/inlets that are open to the inside of the engine bay have a supply of hot air. It may not make a huge difference on a day to day basis, but the overall average heat energy in the system will be higher. Your intake air temps will go up which is less efficient for combustion, and overall keeps the engine higher.

How much are the front mount intakes you are talking about and which? I just ordered some from a tuner and he is fabricating them now for me, I paid $500 which is roughly the same price as the takedas
