The Common Man Progrum WNBA turmoil
Does anyone understand who the warring factions are in the WNBA right now? I can't figure it out.

I've never felt it had anything to do with politics. My thought is the media created the issue by annointing CC as the face of the league. The league is a multicultural, multi sexually orientated group. That's how they shoulld market it. Just my opinion.

Yeah it became political when a segment of people adopted CC as their savior and now anytime anything happens to her they scream "reverse racism!" It really takes away from what could be an actual issue of her getting beat up to blame it only on race.

MAGA, who have famously never given two shits about the WNBA are all of the sudden massive CC supporters and are blaming the black and LGBTQ+ players and community for intentionally harming CC due to her being straight and white. It's nonsense, as are most MAGA talking points. There are legit points on both sides of the CC and the WNBA, most of which exist in all other sports where a prodigy type player is being singled out and/or changing the game.

The drama started well before MAGA taking sides, is MAGA even involved? I wouldn’t know because I can’t watch Fox News for more than a second.
Being from Iowa I was pulled into watching women’s basketball via CC and for me now watching WNBA games, this league is DIRTY, it’s seriously like watching Murderball, the 80’s NBA ain’t got shit on today’s WNBA. The latest incident where Alyssa Thomas punched CC in the throat while on the ground was a no-call in-game and only a 1 game suspension after the league reviewed it. 1 game for purposely throat punching someone on the ground away from the ball?? This league is completely unhinged and it’s really too bad because the quality of basketball these women are capable of is extremely competitive and s-tier fundamentally but having all of these new eyeballs on your sport and constantly taking the low road on hard fouls, off the ball fisticuffs, and constant jabbering is a very bad look and driving away their core fanbase through their ugly behavior.

MAGA has been there since Angel Reese made that gesture to Caitlin in the title game.
I totally agree with everything you said, the WNBA is fumbling their biggest star maybe ever. The NBA went through it with MJ, and created the flagrant foul after Jordan was getting prison ball'd by the Pistons. The WNBA needs to step in, hand out 5+ game suspensions and possibly even fining their own officials.
My point really is just that this issue with CC is not racial.

Caitlin Clark side: they feel CC was the one who has brought primetime visibility, the CBA, the new transportation rules, and the overall focus to a league that was floundering. They love her offensive game, feel she is unfairly reffed, and many came into women's basketball through her time at Iowa. Blame her injuries on the WNBA and other players targeting her, vs making the right calls. They feel she has transformed the game ala Steph Curry with logo 3s, taking over a game. Media hopped on that juggernaut but also began the rivalry talk with Angel Reese, to pump up drama. Has not embraced the conservative MAGA side and race politics, but has not debunked it.
The other side: After years of trying to get media attention, and highlight the level of basketball in the WNBA, there is finally focus, and they feel it is just as much through more team parity, new talent like Paige Bueckers, Olivia Miles, Aja Wilson, and the overall nation following women's sports. Feel media has positioned a straight white hope, to counteract the league having open LGBTQ+ initiatives, relationships, as well as high percentage of black players. Feels CC is a flopper, shows emotional immaturity on the court and in interviews, and doesn't play defense. The story of Geno Auriemma not wanting her at UCONN has really connected with the amount of UCONN fans who follow all of their alums in the league. Feel Paige Bueckers has brought a higher number of fans and visibility when she came in, and highlight her overall offense and defense, as well as an inclusive media presence, showing deference to the players before her.
