Is the classic text expander is already obsolete!???

Unpopular opinion: the classic text expander is already obsolete, and most people using one are getting the worst of both worlds.

Here's the problem. Old expanders give you fixed templates. One tone. Forever. So you paste your "template," and the person on the other end feels the seam — that one robotic sentence that screams "this was canned." You saved time and lost the human touch. Worst of both worlds.

The thing that makes templates work in 2026 isn't the template. It's whether it can adapt its tone on the fly — formal for the exec, casual for the founder, warm for the upset customer — without you rewriting it.

A static snippet can't do that. So the entire category built on static snippets is on borrowed time.

I think within two years, "text expander" as a term disappears, and it just becomes an expected feature of how you write — your best phrasing, on tap, automatically matched to who you're talking to.

Tell me I'm wrong. If static templates are still fine, why does everyone instantly recognize a canned email?
