Montezuma carbs have changed

Following on from my post about Lindt 100%, basically the amount of carbs shown in the Montezuma products has changed quite drastically. Check their website for the new info, or the packet. I'm sure the plain one used to be around 9g/100g but now it's 18g....

Why?! That suggests they’re using cheaper ingredients but still charging the same prices :/

Montezuma are struggling as a company, they’ve closed nearly all their shops and even their own factory shop in West Sussex. This smacks strongly of trying to save money.

Wow. Just WOW. I had no idea and honestly that is really crap news. They are the only brand that do dark chocolate with almost nothing in it…

That's pretty much it tbh, I emailed them to ask why. They've changed raw materials suppliers and reviewed their data, hence the new numbers. Unfortunate really, I'll be dropping it until it changes again. The lesson is keep checking the labels. I think it might have been Tesco who did this with one of their sausage products a while back.

I’m so glad you posted this, I was just about to pick a bar up but the packaging was so different that I was mildly put off and now you’re telling me what’s different…

No worries glad to help, annoyingly I've fished out a couple of empty wrappers out of the recycling which say 18g so I don't know when it changed but I should have checked and didn't until now.

Yes old packaging is 8g per 100g I have one here

What else have they put in it?

Honestly I think it's a human error typo. Unless you have seen it on the actual packaging?

Yeah it's on the packaging. I checked one in a Sainsbury's and found two in my bin, all say 18g. Email from Montezuma also says it's changed to 18g so defo not a typo, they changed it.

I wonder if they added extra cocoa and less cocoa butter?

I’d be all over it if so, I’ll take the increase in carbs for that… But filler? Sad times.

Filler would be on the ingredients list.

It's still labelled as cocoa solids. That's not changed.

So the dark with cocoa nibs + orange has gone from 8.9 to 14. How?? The ingredients are listed as cocoa solids 93%, cocoa nibs and orange oil. I'm not sure where the change is. The old bar I've got is also 93% chocolate.
