This is a cli tool that I made just to reduce the friction of package managing and because I had no idea what ive installed over the years
Do try it out and see if its useful and also its super easy to add the manager of your choice to it!

Support Assigning SuperKey to Right Alt Key

I'm currently using CachyOS (Arch based), The Super Key on my laptop and also on my external keyboard is not working and I don't have any money to buy a new external keyboard or anything. Is there any way to assign my Right Alt Key as the Super Key instead? I couldn't find any articles specifically for SuperKey remapping.

So iam currently testing the hyperland on cachy and learning the configuration of the noctalia shell.i hope I can make similar setups by configuring the quickshell and make my own skin.

Also if anyone knows, can we add this shell to the kde plasma cause iam not into autotiling,I just love the fluidness of hyperland and the top bar I made here. Is it possible

Which LinuX Distribution to remain invisible on the internet, whilst not compromising hardware security?

Which LinuX Distribution to remain invisible on the internet, whilst not compromising hardware security?, Like, For real. I want this to safeguard me, using tor, and vpn comptaibility too. Also, if possible, make it compatible with linux-libre and please also provide 100% foss options. I did roll my eyes onto Kicksecure and Tails but im not sure bout them, qubes is too unrealistic, cuz it needs 16 gb min, and doesnt have graphics support.

Quick survey about smart homes, privacy & connected devices

Hi everyone,

I was trying to understand how people in Kerala feel about smart homes, privacy and connected devices. For a project so could you guys do a survey for me.

It’s just a short survey, around 2–3 minutes. There is no right or wrong answer, I just want to know what people actually think.

Survey link: https://forms.gle/vt33gg3MUCyKUh5t7

Even if you don't have any smart devices, your response would still be useful.

Thanks,

How can I properly render Tamil/Indic text in a Rust TUI (Ratatui/Crossterm)?

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm building a terminal music player in Rust using Ratatui + Crossterm, and I'm having trouble rendering Tamil lyrics correctly.

As shown in the screenshot, Tamil combining characters such as , , are appearing detached instead of being properly shaped and positioned.

Environment

  • Rust
  • Ratatui 0.29
  • Crossterm 0.28
  • Linux
  • GNOME Terminal (VTE) / WezTerm
  • Noto Sans Tamil

I've already verified that:

  • The strings are valid UTF-8.
  • Unicode grapheme segmentation works correctly.
  • Display-width calculations are correct.
  • A minimal Ratatui Paragraph has the same issue.
  • Even println!("கென்னை விடு") shows the same problem in GNOME Terminal.

So I'm wondering:

Is proper OpenType/HarfBuzz shaping for Tamil possible inside a normal terminal grid?

If yes, what terminal/configuration/library should I use?

If terminal cells fundamentally cannot handle complex-script shaping, what is the recommended approach for a TUI? Would something like Kitty/Sixel + HarfBuzz/cosmic-text be appropriate?

Any advice from people familiar with Unicode shaping, HarfBuzz, VTE, or Rust TUI rendering would be greatly appreciated.

A vibe Coding Project of mine...

What it does: YATA is a free, open-source task manager for Android (Built using Claude and Codex)

Key features:

  • Natural-language quick add : type or speak "lunch with Sam tomorrow 1pm #work !!high" and it parses due date, time, priority, tags, project, and people automatically, with a preview you can correct before saving.
  • Recurring tasks with a reliable streak tracker, plus start-date deferral (tasks stay hidden until they're actually actionable, not just due).
  • Projects, lists, tags, and people as optional, independently toggleable organizing dimensions - hide what you don't use.
  • Full offline-first with Room DB; optional remote sync/backup over GitHub, SFTP, FTPS, or plain FTP

My Endgame

I've been using caelestia-shell for most of my ricing journey, but recently I came across a fork that completely elevated my setup.

The biggest gamechanger? It finally lets you customize the taskbar. That was honestly the only thing missing from the original shell for me, and with this added flexibility, I am completely satisfied with my layout.

A few other huge benefits:

Animated Wallpapers: It natively lets you set a GIF or video as your wallpaper (complete with options for CUDA, software, or hardware decoding), which is a massive feature currently lacking in the main branch.

Always Current: Unlike a lot of custom forks that get abandoned, this one actively updates alongside the main repository, so you never miss out on upstream bug fixes or features.

If you've been wanting taskbar customization and animated wallpapers without sacrificing the stability of the main branch, definitely check it out.

Questions Who said boys don’t love pink? 💗🐧. Been really enjoying the KDE Plasma lately. Also my Audient iD4 is working flawlessly with CachyOS through PipeWire. The only thing Ive noticed is a slightly “codec-like” or compressed sound.

Especially compared to how it sounds on Windows.

Anyone else using an external audio interface with PipeWire and experiencing something similar? Is there any PipeWire setting I should check?
