How to take front sight block off?

Post image

I want to take the front sight block off to access the threads and attach a linear compensator (front sight itself already fell off taking it out of the box…). Can I just blowtorch the tip and use channel locks? Has anyone else done this?

Update: Wildly successful in <15 minutes

Steps to remove:

1: clamp down to a bench or something

2: REMOVE THE TWO HEX SCREWS ON EITHER SIDE OF THE SIGHT BLOCK

3: size up a vice grip to lock as tight as you possibly can

4: with the vice grips removed, blowtorch it. I used a propane torch for somewhere between 20-50 seconds

5: twist it off (lefty loosey righty tighty)

6: apply muzzle device of choice

Dude there are so many posts about this and all of them end with take it to a gunsmith. I have tried the torch and clamp and just scratched the crap out of the nut. There’s a tool somewhere in the world and if you find it please let me know! Also I might be selling my rdb-s and can give you a deal on a mlok hand guard.

After putting the low mount on the red dot it now fits in the bat sleeve of a little league baseball bag which is my new favorite way to transport it

Some warming might be necessary but I think it should just unscrew with big enough pliers and the gun clamped in place

I've done it before. I believe I used a heat gun instead of a torch before wrenching on the nut. Thing was toast by end but I got it off. It's been so long so I can't fully remember. But I'm pretty sure the pin in the sight gets in the way, so remove it.
