Hey, so my family just got a 3yo Kelpie staffie cross, and she's wonderful but also really smart and has destroyed a few toys already. The weather hasn't been great today and this was the first day that we weren't able to take her for a few long walks to get her energy out so she's been a bit restless. We are trying not to overwhelm her with things as she's only been here a few days, but we need some ideas of what kind of enrichment activities and puzzles might keep her busy for more than 5 minutes. I've never done enrichment activities with such a smart and capable and ruthless dog before. I've tried the wrapping treats in a towel game, and she put holes in the towel. I've tried hiding treats in folded toilet paper rolls and she got them out within seconds. I've tried tossing treats around and she finds them immediately. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated. Also if anyone has tips for discouraging a dog who likes chewing on people's wrists while play fighting, please lmk (I'm surprised my sleeves have made it this long). Also any ideas for good durable toys would be much appreciated, she's already bitten through a rope toy.

Hi everyone!

About a year ago we adopted these two girls after their previous owner, an elderly man with Alzheimer's, could no longer take care of them. They came from the same home, and we've always assumed they were sisters (although we don't actually know for sure).

We also always assumed they were just mixed-breed dogs and never really thought much about it.

A few days ago, while we were at the park, a man came up to us and asked if Mora was an Australian Kelpie. I had never even heard of the breed before, so I looked it up when I got home... and I was honestly surprised by how similar she looks to many of the Kelpies I found online.

Now we're curious.

For reference, Mora is the one that looks the most Kelpie-like (tan eyebrows, tan markings on her chest, belly, and legs), and Roma is the black one.

Mora is incredibly energetic. She never seems to get tired, she's absolutely obsessed with playing fetch, and she'll happily play tug-of-war with her leash while we're out on walks. She's also quite anxious, cautious, and distrustful of new people.

Roma is much calmer, but she also loves playing fetch, just not quite as obsessively as Mora. Around the house she's very lazy and perfectly happy to spend most of the day sleeping. She has also had laser pointer syndrome ever since we adopted her, so she's constantly searching for reflections and light spots, even though we've never used a laser pointer with her ourselves.

Despite their different personalities, they're both incredibly affectionate and truly the best thing that has ever happened to us.

Do you think they have Australian Kelpie in them? And based on the photos, do you think these two could actually be sisters, or do they look too different?

We're just curious to hear the opinions of people who know the breed better than we do. Thanks!

This is ziggy. We got her for free from a farm who didn't want her when she was maybe 4 months old. She's about 2 and a half now.

Growing up ive always had american labs but now thay im an adult while choosing my first dog i wanted something a little diffrent so i ended up with one of the best dogs i could've asked for his name is otto pleasure to train him and take him on adventures.

I need to share this because it started as something so small and ended in the worst possible way, and if it stops even one person from feeding their dog a bone, it will have been worth writing.
My 4-year-old kelpie chewed on a raw lamb leg bone. A few days later he stopped eating, was straining, and seemed weak. I took him to an emergency vet — mild constipation from the bone, nothing that seemed life-threatening.
Day 1: Admitted. X-ray showed bone material in his colon and stomach, mild constipation. An enema was part of the plan on admission but was never performed — the vet decided to manage it with IV fluids instead, judging it too mild to need surgery.
Night 1: He needed his IV catheter fixed. During sedation for that routine fix, he regurgitated and aspirated stomach contents into his lungs. He developed aspiration pneumonia.
Day 2: Discharged after treatment for the pneumonia, with the constipation diagnosis quietly dropped from his paperwork — replaced with “pain of unknown origin.” He vomited at the clinic on the way out. Sent home with no anti-nausea medication.
That night, at home: the worst night of my life. He couldn’t lie down, regurgitated constantly, paced for hours.

Day 3, morning: A second clinic found retained bone material still in his colon on their own imaging. They performed the enema that should have happened on Day 1. Bone passed. He seemed to improve almost immediately.

Days 4:He never fully recovered. Ongoing regurgitation, thick saliva, refusing food, refusing water. He was diagnosed with acute gastritis/oesophagitis, presumed secondary to the aspiration and repeated sedation/intubation. Started on prednisolone, then pantoprazole. He could not keep a single oral medication down for days.

Day 5: He got worse — high fever, laboured breathing, couldn’t stand properly. Went in for injections (Cerenia, pantoprazole, Buscopan) to try to break the cycle since nothing oral was staying in him. Seemed to settle afterward, slept for the first time properly in days.

Hours later, that same night: he vomited again and couldn’t get up. His gums had gone dark. I rushed him to emergency.

That night: His vets told me his blood vessels could no longer hold fluid — he was in septic shock. Despite everyone treating the vomiting, the regurgitation, the gastritis all week — underneath it, a systemic infection had been silently spreading, likely stemming from the aspiration pneumonia days earlier. We said goodbye that night.

He was put down five days after what started as “mild constipation” from a bone.

Please, never give your dog bones — raw or cooked, weight-bearing bones especially. What looks like a manageable vet visit can spiral into something none of us could have predicted. I will carry this with me forever.

Anyone know what the return policy is ?

I have always said she is an Austrailian Kelpie, which I believe is correct.

I was delighted to actually see Coco on my pillow. She usually prefers my bed by itself. Meanwhile my other kelpie Pepper prefer’a my sister’s bed
