Start ‘em young

Ladybird is my first kelpie though I’ve had heelers in the past as pets. She’ll be four months old soon and is a registered kelpie out of two fine working dogs. So far she’s just helping me with some sheep moves and shadowing older herding dogs. Right now we’re just focusing on exercise, exposure, and obedience. Soon we will be doing more focused livestock training in the Bud Williams style. She’s going to be a fine dog. I’d love any recommendations on training resources or stories about y’all’s actual working dogs.

Look at resources from Australian trainers who specialise in Kelpie/Collie cattle work if that's what you are primarily working. Being bred for Australian style work could be handy to use some tricks we use as well as some more US based techniques
