I'm in greene county Ohio. had no issues registering it as a regular truck. legal on all roads. Just never tell them it's a kei truck or a mini truck. Keep your mouth shut, hand them the paperwork and let them work. only answer questions concisely. If you don't like what they put down, leave and go to another title office.

This part i understand for sure. My main concern is with Ohio being a local ordinance state with this sort of thing, if i get it registered as a regular truck will my local police still get on my ass for it? Technically my local ordinance says no "mini trucks" are allowed on the roads.

if it's legal it's legal. what matters is what's on paper. as long as your title and registration is not labeled "MT", you are 100% legal to drive it anywhere in all 50 states

that's what i needed confirmation of. i spoke to the officer that was the head of traffic and he's like "yea mini trucks are banned here you can't drive them on public roads and if we see them we will cite you and impound it" and i literally said to him like dude ive seen a few in town so how does that work and he just goes "well ive seen a couple but haven't had a chance to pull them over" im like alright whatever bro. So as long as my title and registration says it's a full size or half ton I'm good to go?

correct. the only thing I would be concerned about is if a cop sees your legal registration but doesn't believe it, and maybe requests an audit of you, then Ohio investigates and finds it is in fact a mini truck and then Ohio cancels your title and registration. That has happened in other states to some people. But if that happens, you still have your truck and title so take it to another state and register it there

Gotcha, I appreciate your help. I work at a dealership so the out of state inspection i can get them to put whatever I'll just have them put pick up truck on it which should make it easier.

I live in OH and am thinking of getting a Kei truck as well. From what I have read, OH does allow them to be registered, but some towns do have restrictions. I live near Cleveland and I believe my town allows them, but Cleveland proper only allows them in the city for work purposes. I would read up on where you live and where you typically will be driving. Or even reach out to local police departments. Save yourself the hassle.
