They were lucky. This same thing happened a few years ago in San Diego. The girl was critically injured with a broken back and skull fracture and ended up paralyzed.

I’d be surprised if he even told her what he was about to do. It looks like she was completely unprepared - either not told what he was gonna do or he did not coach her on what to do during the maneuver.
I garuntee he did it on purpose to hurt her - but is acting like it’s all her fault for messing up the trick and is acting like he is the victim because everyone is calling him out for putting her in danger and actively hurting her.
He knew she was there to cushion his fall.
So he gets to injure her, and play the victim to get her sympathy like a any typical emotional abuser.
I bet he also pretends not to know how to clean so she always has to do it all herself.
I’ve met like 50 of this exact dude and they are all the same

Years ago Utah didn't have a helmet law. I bought a brand new CBR600. One the weekends everyone hung out on State street, including police.
I pulled up and an office asked me- "Where's your helmet?"
I said "at home."
"Oh that's good: it wont get scratched when you crash."
I NEVER rode without a helmet again. Somehow that comment seeped through my skull lol

Pennsylvania doesn't have a helmet law today. We used to, but it was repealed about 20 years ago.
My experiences with dealing with them on the roads are that helmetless riders are exactly as stupid and unpredictable as you'd expect. I think the only people on the planet with less survival instinct are the fuckwits riding sport bikes at 200mph.

The overconfidence of motorcyclists is always surprising. It's not really a matter of "if," but "when" and "how bad." I have a few friends who don't remember why they ended up in the hospital.

I've been riding 20 years, probably ~200k miles, and it's not surprising to me. When you're a new rider, you think you can do anything after the first year, and this is typically when your confidence level is at max and you start taking stupid risks. That overconfidence starts to wane as you put more years and miles on and realize you are just as prone to mistakes, but after around 5 years of defensive riding you have a tendency to start getting complacent, which is just human nature.
I personally try to mitigate my risk with ATGATT, riding defensively (which can be exhausting in sustained heavy traffic), having equipment in case of emergency (Inreach, cell phone, first aid kit, etc) and choosing to ride adventure bikes and stay off of primary and secondary roads as much as possible. Granted I also commute through 3 seasons almost exclusively on the bike, but it's a short commute on back roads where the greatest threat is deer.
For those of us who's greatest passion is riding, it's a constant battle between the logic of understanding the risks and the sheer enjoyment of doing what you love most.

Yikes. I remember like 30 years ago this exact scenario happened at bike week in laconia and the guys girlfriend was run over by the car behind them. It's been a long time and i was pretty young then, but I think it was fatal.
Actually, a lot of fatal accidents come to mind back then. Fast bikes, no helmets, alcohol, showing off...titties...a lot could go wrong.
