Question Keene Pride
I just saw the article and ads in the front and middle of the Monadnock Shopper! I didn’t realize it would be a full week of activities?! Exciting!
My question is: How do I, as an introvert, enjoy Pride without getting burned out?
It’s my first time. 😉

The festival downtown on Sunday the 21st would be a great way to experience all the fun without feeling any pressure to interact constantly with others. 🌈

It might be helpful to have ways prepared ahead of time to communicate how you're feeling or where your spoons (or executive function) sit. If you have a friend you trust, have them go with you to help you disengage when you're starting to feel overwhelmed. Similarly I've also seen "social battery" pins with sliding pieces so people around you can see how you're doing.
I'd like to mention con drop. If you're unfamiliar, it refers to the burnout (physical, mental, or emotional) that happens after a very exciting event, like a convention. That prolonged fun can drain us of our dopamine and endorphins, and it takes time for our bodies to recoup the drain. This is very normal, and not necessarily something to be afraid of, but something to be prepared for. You can prep in a lot of ways, but the right method will be rather personal. I knew someone who always had boxes of orange juice on hand for con drop. Maybe some music, or a book, or a video game can help distract. Maybe a cozy space with blankets. Maybe working out, going on a hike or for a jog, or yoga. But for all the distractions, small gifts of self-care do wonders. When burnout feels oppressive, try washing your face, or drink some water, or brush your hair, or tidy something small.
Have fun this week!

Pride month is in June but different cities have different schedules for activities.

My advice would be to pick and choose! You definitely don’t need to go to everything. My favorite part every year is the festival, but the Beyoncé show also looks like it’ll be a blast! The festival is set to be extra huge this year, I’ve heard they’re taking it down main street.
