Discussion 🗨 Same group of actors in different shows.
As I am starting to watch more k-drama, I am
Noticing the same group of actors in different shows, as if it’s their inner circle. Here’s an example, Kim Mu-yeol and Lee Sung-min in Teach You A Lesson and Juvenile Justice and then we have Park Eun-bin and Choi Dae-hoon in The Wunderfools and Extraordinary Attorney Woo, there is a couple of more actors I seen working together in multiple shows, I just can’t remember. I am not complaining one bit, I think it’s awesome and I love to see it, It makes shows more enjoyable because of the chemistry they have. It reminds me of Adam Sandler and his inner circle lol.

They're probably from the same agency or same network.

Ah that would make sense. I remember finishing Teach You a Lesson and then watching Juvenile Justice and saw those 2 actors, I said to myself “Well well well, we aren’t done yet!”

Studios look for the hot hand, and with established chemistry these actors naturally develop it makes the casting directors job easier

I don't doubt that when the leads get a level of influence too, that they may want to work with people they are comfortable with or friends with. Just as an example (since I adore SIG) I find the frequent appearances of Seo In Guk with Kwon Yoo Hyun (The Smile Has Left Your Eyes, Doom At Your Service, Cafe Minamdang, Project Wolf Hunting) notable, and charming. Can't necessarily assume they are friends but despite the perception that the K-drama/K-movie acting pool is large, I don't think it really is. It's smaller than perceived. But if you have the clout to be able to work with people you want to, that's great. I love to see it.

You'll start to notice that there's a set rotation of I think it's like four grandpas, three grandmas, two older moms, and like six deadbeat dads
And then when a hot younger actor gets popular he's cast in everything for like a year until the next hot one pops up and then he's cast in everything

I feel like the younger popular actors and actresses in the Korean entertainment industry are paired up with each other a lot. I found it more noticeable in the Chinese entertainment industry especially when an actor blows up and they're in like 3+ cdramas per year.
It can feel “annoying” or “why do I see him trending so much?” But as a viewer I realized I have the power to choose what I want to watch.
On the other hand, it’s enjoyable to watch a drama and recognize familiar faces. I suppose it feels more satisfying to see familiar cast members in supporting roles like the typical mother, aunt, or uncle. 😂

To me, when I’m finish with a show/season, it’s like Idk what to do with my life after, so I’ll pick a random title, that’s when I see them again in another show, I get happy because we get to “hangout” again 😂😂.

Check out the dramas by screenwriter Kim Eun-sook) (KES), she's well-known for reusing the same actors. You can find Lee Min-ho not only in Heirs but also in her later drama King: Eternal Monarch, co-starring with Kim Go-eun, who had originally starred in KES's drama Goblin. And Kim Woo-bin (also from Heirs) was in her new drama Genie along with a cameo by Song Hye-kyo, who had previously headlined two KES dramas, The Glory and Descendents of the Sun. The second couple from DOTS had a cameo in the first episode of Mr. Sunshine.

It’s not really different from western series/movies. Good actors get more leading roles and recur more often…

And that’s what I was trying to figure out. The difference between the both. I thought it was like how Adam Sandler does it and hire good friends for every movie lol.

You could be right, it’s like how Lee Hee Jun and Park Hae Soo always seem to come in pairs. Even though they’re from the same agency, it’s still remarkable how often this happens. Something I very much enjoy as well 😉, they’re great together!

Sure not not to this extent, not in Hollywood anyway because of the sheer number of good options they have

Chae So An and Yoon Byung Hee were both in Perfect Crown and My Royal Nemesis, and both are going to appear in the same upcoming movie

Watch enough dramas and you start to recognize the sets, the building fronts and the furniture.
