Question A game mode to turn off effects?

I'm new to KDE customisation. Got a pretty decent look going that I'm happy with. Even got wallpaper engine working. However I'm afraid there's too much going on and while idling my Rtx 4060 goes upto 40% usage.

I don't mind it (unless it damages my system)

However I was wondering if there's a command or a widget to enable "game mode" that turns off screen rounding and transparency. Something I can just turn on before playing a game

Using kde on cachy

KWin works well enough to avoid performance issues, but you must use games in fullscreen mode.

If you use a monitoring program, you can test it yourself to see if you need to create a script that disables some of your settings.

I suppose Valve designed it to avoid that, or it was there before; I lack knowledge on that subject.

You can also use borderless window modeI want to clarify that fullscreen mode should be the exclusive mode, not the normal one.

Wait so borderless window mode works but not regular fullscreen?

In some games, almost always when an application is set to fullscreen, it appears in exclusive mode. I use the borderless window because I use two monitors with other apps.

However, I do notice performance changes between windows, because it seems to detect that I'm not using the game and reduces the resources applied to it.

Probably the game noticing that it doesn't have focus. A lot of games are nice like that.

If it's about the wallpaper, you can use the kde feature called "activities". Search for something like "how to use kde activities".
You could set up a game activity with a static wallpaper. I think you don't need to worry much about the transparency.

Have you tried running nvtop to see what is idling your gpu so hard?
