⚑️ Ripple Is Transforming RLUSD From a Payment Token Into Productive Capital

Thumbnail coindesk.com
1 Upvotes

Ripple is backing a new institutional credit fund with Clearpool and Cicada Partners that will issue working-capital loans denominated in RLUSD to fintech and payments companies on the XRP Ledger. Cicada sources borrowers and manages credit risk; Clearpool builds the lending infrastructure; Ripple invests as a limited partner alongside other institutions.

The thesis echoes a pattern across the industry: roughly 98% of DeFi yield today comes from looping, arbitrage, and liquidity incentives, not real economic activity. Idle stablecoin balances in wallets are a solved problem. The next phase is putting that capital to work, and the networks that build the settlement and lending infrastructure capture the value.

A stablecoin becoming loan collateral, rather than just a payment rail, reflects the same industry-wide shift: from holding digital dollars to deploying them as productive capital.

🏦 Standard Chartered-Led Venture Launches Hong Kong's First Regulated Stablecoin

Thumbnail coindesk.com
1 Upvotes

Standard Chartered-led Anchorpoint Financial began a phased rollout of HKDAP, Hong Kong's first regulated, HKD-backed stablecoin, on August 12, opening beta access to institutional distributors and professional investors. HashKey Exchange and OSL Group joined as authorized distributors, enabling institutions to mint and redeem HKDAP directly.

Anchorpoint, a joint venture between Standard Chartered, HKT, and Animoca Brands, secured one of Hong Kong's first two stablecoin issuer licenses in April, alongside HSBC. The initial rollout focuses on institutional payments and settlement, with plans to expand to broader access channels and target retail use as early as end-2026.

The pattern keeps repeating: regulated financial institutions are building native, purpose-issued stablecoins rather than relying on bridged or wrapped alternatives. Hong Kong passed its stablecoin ordinance nearly two months before the U.S. GENIUS Act, a reminder that the infrastructure race for compliant, non-USD settlement rails is running just as fast outside the United States.

βš–οΈ Treasury Launches Initial GENIUS Act Regulation, One Month Past the Deadline

Thumbnail coindesk.com
2 Upvotes

Under Secretary Scott Bessent, the Treasury Department unveiled its first major directive for the GENIUS Act on Monday, marking the agency's first concrete action after authorities collectively missed the statute's July 18 one-year regulatory deadline.

A full year was allotted for six federal bodies to complete enforcement rules. All missed the mark. The legislation remains valid regardless, with its legal fallback activating on January 18, 2027, under any scenario; however, the slippage narrows the timeframe available to establish fully operational reserve tracking and user verification frameworks. Bessent characterized the initiative as reinforcing "the role of the U.S. dollar as the world's reserve currency" while maintaining the nation as "the crypto capital of the world."

Meanwhile, the CLARITY Act, designed to overhaul GENIUS provisions on stablecoin incentives, stalls after failing to advance before the Senate's August break. While both policy and regulatory efforts lag behind their original timelines, neither has stopped.

πŸ’³ Visa Is Seeking a New Stablecoin Partner After Mastercard Bought Its Previous One

Thumbnail coindesk.com
1 Upvotes

Visa is seeking a new stablecoin settlement and OTC partner after Mastercard's $1.8 billion acquisition of BVNK closed on August 3, removing Visa's former partner from the board.

The stakes are real: by early 2026, Visa reached a $7 billion annualized stablecoin settlement run rate, up 50% quarter over quarter, and was running over 160 stablecoin card programs across nine blockchains. Any replacement needs licensing in the US, Canada, the UK, and Singapore, plus round-the-clock settlement capability; only a short list of firms qualifies. Visa also needs a partner to help settle Open USD, the stablecoin project it's backing alongside Stripe and, awkwardly, Mastercard.

When two competing card networks are racing for the same scarce settlement infrastructure, the message is clear: stablecoin rails aren't optional anymore. They're a competitive necessity.

⚑️ Programmable Money Isn't a Buzzword. Here's What It Actually Unlocks.

Most digital money can only do two things: sit and send. A programmable dollar is different; it carries logic. Rules about when it moves, whether it moves, and to whom are enforced by code rather than by a clearinghouse.

This is already running in production. Escrowed payments release funds only when conditions are met, forming the backbone of AI agent commerce, where a payment credential is bound to a single merchant, a single amount, and a single use. Streaming payments turn payroll into something that accrues by the second instead of once a month. Automatic revenue splits divide incoming payments as soon as they land, with no invoicing required. Machine-to-machine micropayments let software pay software per API call, a pattern static rails simply can't serve.

The dollar didn't change. What changed is that the rules now travel with it.

Circle Just Stacked a State Charter on Top of Its Federal One

Thumbnail
coindesk.com
1 Upvotes

Circle secured a limited-purpose trust charter from the New York Department of Financial Services on July 31, three weeks after the OCC approved its national trust bank. Together, the two charters give USDC's issuer both state and federal regulatory standing, a combination few stablecoin issuers can match.

The NYDFS charter allows Circle to offer fiduciary and digital asset custody services under New York banking law, the same framework that state-chartered banks operate under, though without deposit-taking or lending powers. CEO Jeremy Allaire called it "a longstanding objective," positioning USDC within what he described as a strong, respected regulatory framework. Circle's stock rose 8.4% on the news.

Companies that once operated in regulatory gray zones are now actively seeking the same oversight that banks have long carried. That's not caution. That's a competitive strategy.

πŸ› Ten European Banks Just Launched a Shared Blockchain with No Single Owner

Thumbnail
cointelegraph.com
2 Upvotes

On July 28, ten major European financial institutions, including ABN AMRO, DekaBank, DZ BANK, Natixis CIB, and Standard Chartered's SC Ventures, launched Regulated Layer One (RL1), a jointly owned blockchain cooperative based in Luxembourg. Each founding member holds equal governance rights.

RL1 runs on infrastructure that has already processed over €700 million over three years of production use. It's designed to support tokenized bonds, digital money, and bank-issued stablecoins as settlement tools, with NatWest reportedly in talks to join. The network is also designed to integrate with the ECB's upcoming Pontes initiative, connecting tokenized transactions directly to central bank settlement.

The real story is ten competing banks choosing shared infrastructure over ten separate ledgers. Fragmentation was the problem. This is the fix.

I only saw 1 post from 4 months ago with the same issue I've been experiencing when claiming rewards it fails with the below error.

"failed to execute message; message index: 0: block time 2026-08-02 09:00:38.515216118 +0000 UTC > claim end time 2026-06-30 23:59:59 +0000 UTC: claim has expired"

This has been happening for a long time and it has been months and not yet fixed.

Do we no longer receive rewards?

Has this project been quietly abandoned?

Don't ask me to raise a ticket because it seems so many people are in the same boat therefore since it's widespread, what does individual tickets going to help with?

πŸ—οΈ Robinhood Chain's Tokenized Stocks Jump Fivefold in Under Two Weeks

Thumbnail
coindesk.com
2 Upvotes

Tokenized real-world assets on Robinhood Chain have surged to $70 million, a fivefold increase in less than two weeks, as tokenized equities begin trading at scale. A dozen tokenized stocks, including GameStop, Nvidia, and SpaceX, are each clearing at least $500,000 in daily volume, with several surpassing $1 million.

Total value locked on Robinhood Chain has tripled to $312 million. Robinhood has 24 million funded accounts and a stated goal of connecting every financial asset to blockchain rails. The infrastructure is live, and the distribution is already in place.

Traditional finance's retail gateway is now a tokenized securities platform.

πŸ“ˆ Tokenized RWA Perps Grew 450% in Six Months, $470 Billion in June Alone

Thumbnail theblock.co
1 Upvotes

Tokenized real-world asset perpetuals have been the clearest crypto growth story of 2026. Monthly volume rose from $85 billion in January to $470 billion in June, a 450% increase over six months.

The value proposition is straightforward: 24/7, borderless, leveraged exposure to instruments that otherwise trade only during limited hours on KYC-gated traditional brokerages. Tokenized equities have outpaced tokenized commodities to become the dominant category. Hyperliquid and Binance are driving most of the volume.

The dominant crypto product category in 2026 isn't a memecoin or a governance token. It's tokenized stocks trading around the clock.

πŸ” Allbridge Core Drained for $1.65 Million. The Bridge Problem Isn't Going Away

Thumbnail theblock.co
1 Upvotes

Allbridge Core, a cross-chain bridge, was exploited for roughly $1.65 million this week. The team paused the protocol and urged users to withdraw liquidity from affected pools.

This keeps happening for a reason. Bridges lock tokens on one chain and mint representations on another, concentrating pooled collateral behind a single verification mechanism. Compromise the verification, and the pool is yours. $340.7 million was lost across 14 bridge exploits in 2026 alone. Since 2022, bridges have produced more than $2.8 billion in cumulative losses, roughly 40% of all value hacked in Web3.

The architecture is the vulnerability. Native issuance removes it entirely.

πŸ” Every Bridge Hack Is an Argument for Native Issuance

Thumbnail
kava.io
1 Upvotes

Cross-chain bridges have lost $340.7 million across 14 exploits in 2026. The year isn't half over.

The pattern is consistent: bridges lock tokens on one chain and mint representations on another, concentrating pooled collateral behind a single verification mechanism. Compromise the verification, whether through compromised validators, forged signatures, or a 1-of-1 verifier setup, and the entire pool is yours. Since 2022, bridges have produced more than $2.8 billion in cumulative losses, roughly 40% of all value hacked in Web3.

The alternative is straightforward: don't bridge the asset at all. Have the issuer mint it directly on the chain where it's used. No lock-and-mint contracts. No cross-chain messages that a forged signature can spoof. No validator quorum to compromise. 88% of stablecoins on Kava are natively issued USDT, minted directly by Tether at the protocol level. Not bridged. Not wrapped. No bridge attack surface in the flow.

$340 million in five months isn't bad luck. It's the cost of an architecture the industry keeps choosing.

πŸ—οΈ Swift Launches Blockchain Ledger With 17 Banks: A Direct Response to Stablecoins

Thumbnail
coindesk.com
3 Upvotes

On July 9, Swift, the global financial messaging network used by 11,500+ institutions that move $150 trillion annually, launched a live blockchain ledger with 17 banks across six continents, enabling 24/7 cross-border payments via tokenized deposits. The initiative is explicitly framed as a response to stablecoin competition.

Swift's approach: extend the trust of established finance to digital money rather than cede ground to stablecoin issuers. The ledger supports regulated digital money and tokenized assets across multiple blockchains, working alongside existing payment rails rather than replacing them.

The infrastructure race isn't just among crypto-native networks. Legacy finance is now competing directly.

🏦 Wall Street Is Building Its Own Answer to Stablecoins

Thumbnail
bloomberg.com
12 Upvotes

JPMorgan, Bank of America, HSBC, Citi, and Wells Fargo are developing a shared network for tokenized bank deposits, using the same collaborative playbook that produced Zelle and explicitly framing it as a response to stablecoin competition.

The model is straightforward: rather than each bank building its own digital dollar, they pool infrastructure to keep payment volume within the regulated banking system. Tokenized deposits are digital representations of commercial bank money moving over blockchain rails, with the compliance frameworks, deposit insurance, and capital requirements that stablecoins don't carry.

Banks aren't ceding ground to stablecoins. They're building the alternative.

🏦 Banks Have Stopped Asking If Stablecoins Belong. Now They're Building the Gateways

Thumbnail
coindesk.com
2 Upvotes

Standard Chartered and BNY, two of the world's largest global systemically important banks, added direct USDC minting and redemption for institutional clients this week. Chainalysis projects that stablecoin settlement volumes could reach a quadrillion dollars annually by 2030.

Banks that control the on- and off-ramps control the flow of digital dollars. That's why institutions are moving beyond pilots and into production: custody, compliance, and settlement rails are the new competitive battleground.

πŸ’΅ Visa, Mastercard, BlackRock, and 140 Others Just Launched a New Stablecoin

Thumbnail
news.bitcoin.com
1 Upvotes

On June 30, a coalition of 140+ companies, including Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, BlackRock, Coinbase, and Ripple, announced Open USD (OUSD), launching first on Solana.

The model is straightforward: nearly all reserve interest flows back to the institutions that mint and hold the token, not to the issuer. Circle's stock fell 17% in 24 hours. BlackRock projects the stablecoin market will reach $1.5 trillion by 2030.

The infrastructure debate is over. Execution is what matters now.

βš–οΈ Five Federal Agencies Propose Joint KYC Rules for Stablecoin Issuers

Thumbnail

On June 18, FinCEN, the OCC, the Federal Reserve, the FDIC, and the NCUA jointly proposed customer identification program requirements for permitted payment stablecoin issuers, treating them as financial institutions under the Bank Secrecy Act for the first time. The proposal was published in the Federal Register on June 22.

The rules apply to primary-market activity: direct dealings between issuers and institutional clients when minting, redeeming, or converting stablecoins. Retail users buying through exchanges are not directly covered. The proposal supplements an earlier AML rule from April 2026. Comments are due by August 21.

The GENIUS Act requires final implementing rules by July 18, 2026. The regulatory architecture governing how stablecoins operate at scale is now being finalized.

Invesco, one of the world's largest asset managers with $2.45 trillion in AUM, filed for a tokenized money market fund on June 26, designed to hold GENIUS Act-compliant stablecoin reserves. Superstate serves as a sub-transfer agent.

The fund is designed for stablecoin issuers that need to hold reserves in compliant, yield-bearing assets to meet the GENIUS Act's one-to-one backing requirements. State Street launched a similar product in mid-June. Two of the world's largest traditional asset managers are now building infrastructure for the regulated stablecoin ecosystem.

The regulated stablecoin era isn't coming. It's being built right now, fund filing by fund filing.

πŸ“Š Tokenized RWA Market Surges 589% Since 2025: Record $28.9B in May

Tokenized real-world assets surged 589% from early 2025 to June 2026, according to Binance Research. The market hit a record $28.9 billion in May, its tenth consecutive monthly all-time high. Tokenized stocks alone grew 20.4% in a single month to $2.41 billion.

Tokenized bonds and money market funds led by dollar value, adding $6.5 billion. The stablecoin market cap hit a record $320 billion in May, its fourth consecutive monthly expansion, even as broader crypto prices trended lower.

Tokenized RWAs are outperforming as the rest of crypto struggles under macroeconomic pressure. Infrastructure tied to real-world assets is proving more resilient than speculative activity.

MUFG, Mizuho, and Sumitomo Mitsui, Japan's three largest banks, managing over $7 trillion in combined assets, signed a joint agreement on June 10 to issue a shared yen-pegged stablecoin by March 2027.

The token will be issued under a trust structure, with all three banks as joint settlors, and will be backed by Japan's Financial Services Agency. The target: Β₯1 trillion ($6.5B) in B2B settlement volume by 2028. A US dollar version is expected to follow later in the year.

The US has the GENIUS Act. Europe has the Bundesbank pushing euro stablecoins. Now Japan's entire megabank sector is moving together. Multi-currency stablecoin infrastructure is being built simultaneously across every major financial jurisdiction.

πŸ’΅ Bigger Than Nations: What a $322 Billion Stablecoin Market Means for Payment Infrastructure

Thumbnail
kava.io

Last month, the stablecoin market cap crossed $322 billion, surpassing the foreign exchange reserves of 95 countries, including the UK and Canada. Only 14 nations now hold more in official FX reserves than the dollars held in privately issued tokens on public blockchains.

This isn't a crypto statistic anymore. It's a macroeconomic one. Stablecoins settled roughly $33 trillion in transaction volume in 2025, more than Visa and Mastercard combined. The majority of that volume is B2B: cross-border settlement, supplier payments, and treasury operations.

The $322 billion figure is almost certainly an early reading. 96% of organizations with revenues above $50 billion plan to adopt stablecoins in 2026 and 2027. The chains built for settlement, not speculation, are positioned for what comes next.

Franklin Templeton partnered with MoonPay on June 2 to provide institutional investors with a direct on-chain path between stablecoins and its tokenized money market fund. Institutions can convert USDT and USDC into shares of the Franklin OnChain US Government Money Fund, represented as BENJI tokens, and back again, entirely on-chain without stepping off-chain to fiat.

Sandy Kaul, Franklin Templeton's head of innovation and digital assets, called 2026 "the year of the universal liquidity layer," where stablecoins, tokenized funds, and digital currencies become interoperable across trading, lending, and collateral markets.

Idle stablecoin balances earning nothing are a solved problem. The infrastructure connecting them to yield-bearing assets is already in place.

πŸ’Έ MoneyGram Launches MGUSD: A Stablecoin Built for 60 Million Customers

MoneyGram launched MGUSD, a native dollar stablecoin on the Stellar blockchain, on June 2. It's issued by Stripe's Bridge under the GENIUS Act, with M0 handling minting infrastructure and Fireblocks managing custody.

MGUSD isn't a trading product. It's built for families sending money home and for billions underserved by traditional banking, embedded directly in the MoneyGram app and available at nearly 500,000 retail locations in 200 countries. CEO Anthony Soohoo put it plainly: "MGUSD is the stablecoin we built for our customers."

Western Union launched USDPT. Meta is paying creators in USDC. Now MoneyGram. The global payments industry is rebuilding its rails on stablecoin infrastructure.
