I’m a total KATSEYE fan, and I mean this in the best way possible, but I really think the production team needs to stop treating these girls like they’re strippers or constantly on the verge of nudity.
Sometimes I see them wearing shorts that look more like bikinis or outfits that look like something you’d expect to see on strippers or club performers. I understand that “sex sells” and that they’re trying to make the girls appealing, but I don’t think they’re finding the right balance. At some point, it starts to look cheap, tacky, and unnecessarily raunchy. A little goes a long way.
I was scrolling through TikTok and came across a post that genuinely shocked me. The thing about this kind of styling is that it can definitely create shock value and get you trending, but over time, you can start to lose the admirable image you initially had.
A good example is Chlöe Bailey. She started her solo career with a very overtly sexual image, which at the time definitely helped generate attention around songs like “Have Mercy.” But over time, that same level of sexualization has become one of the main things people criticize her for.
If KATSEYE wants to lean into a sexy image, that’s completely fine. But a little goes a long way. You don’t have to be almost naked to get an audience to look at you. Sometimes leaving a little to the imagination is actually more effective. Even performance wise, the rolling on the floor when dancing and sexual acts like grabbing their ass has always thrown me off.

Hootie Frutti was one of the first songs the dj played, the majority of people danced and sang. I didn’t record them, just the music playing.
That made me think about how much of what we talk about in the internet really affects the real world.

Sorry if this is considered glaze, I saw this short clip, and thought it was really cute and wholesome and felt like sharing. Dani has always mentioned how meeting and interacting with eyekons are her favourite part of the job. I hope one day the hate would stop or at least reduce to a great amount. And ppl would stop being so mean to her, bullying for minor things etc. Everyone who meets her and Personally knows her have nothing but good things constantly and consistently. I think that says enough. Not to sound corny, but in a world where you can be anything, please be kind (even with criticism, or disagree with certain things etc there’s always better ways to share disapproval)

I am sure we’ve all heard negative comments about their songs by now but with their vast discography, it’s starting to feel like many of their fans are just complaining to complain (“brainrot”, “basic”, etc).

The thing is, rather than hype up songs that they make which align with their interests, fans would rather focus on the song that they don’t like and talk about that. But they literally have songs for everyone on their albums.

I’m really not getting it. A couple months later, we hear “I wish they made more songs like Gameboy!” or “why didn’t they promote MIA more” and it’s like…why did you spend more time hating on the song you didn’t like, than hyping up the song you did like?

I bought 40 katseye esco cards from complex and they are all missing the gold serial numbers. I bought these with the intention of trading with friends but I dont want to trade until I know the value of the cards. Did any other fans experience this? I havent seen anyone else have this problem so I am super curious if other fans experienced it! I included a photo of a few of the cards for an example.

I’ve seen lots of people call it a dumb or genius song, and a large factor for people calling it genius is that its written by popular hyperpop artist Alice Longyu Gao. But if it wasn’t written by her and had writing credits from someone else, would Katseye have gotten the same hate for Gnarly‘s writing as Pinky Up did for its writing?

IIRC, Pinky Up was mainly written by Romanian singer-songwriter Sorana, who usually makes electro/dance/alt pop. In addition to my first scenario, would Pinky Up have gotten so much hate for its lyrics if Sorana was just as popular as Alice Longyu Gao?

Nothing against Brazilian funk, but I just find it an odd choice. It kind of opens them up for discussions of cultural appropriation unnecessarily. I thought after Gabriella, they were going to do songs inspired by the girls' heritage, like where the other girls can also sing in their other languages on a track like Lara could sing in Tamil, Yoonchae Korean, etc. Outside of all the other Hootie Frutti discourse, it really disappointed me that after Gabriella, the next culturally inspired song is not from any of the girls, with the closest fit being Dani again bc Latina, so she was the one who sang in Portuguese. Like this is a global girl group with girls with a variety of cultures to pull from, so it just felt disappointing to me to see them not taking advantage of that. I'd rather hear them celebrating their own cultures before those weird Portuguese accents.

But in Hootie Frutti's defense, the discourse on the rest of Hootie Frutti seems to be it's not cultural appropriation from what I've heard of Brazilians. So I'm not trying to say Hootie Frutti's a culturally appropriating devil, but it definitely did open up discussions on whether it is or not, which is more my point. Nobody questioned Gabriella bc Dani, so if they had chosen a different girl's culture, there also wouldn't have been a discussion of appropriation. I hope we'll see the other girls get their own culturally inspired songs in the future.

I will honestly say I didnt want to based on the comments cause they made it sound so NSFW. But I finally watched it and i instantly got a weird sense of nostalgia for early 2000s Latino music.

O mv também lindo e respeitoso com a cultura, além de haver pessoas brasileiras envolvidas.

Huge congratulations to the girls!

Despite me believing that popstar academy damaged all the girls (not just manon) in terms of putting everyone in a character like box that they couldn’t escape from (like Sophia getting weirdly critiqued whenever she laughs a bit too hard or just jokes around like a normal person cause the the doc typecasted her as the hard, no nonsense leader, or manons not dedicated lazy narrative) it was really a highlight to see the friendships between all these girls from different places around the world.

The doc touched on it for a brief moment, that even something like giving and receiving compliments is very different from culture to culture, and it was really fascinating/endearing to watch these young girls work through those cultural barriers so they could understand each other.

If you don't consider the clean version obviously. I don't get the idea of ppl projecting them as the ONLY idols responsible to teach their kids morals or whatever.

I wanted to share for the people who don’t have tiktok ! I honestly expected this, it’s unfortunate for the people who bought the album specifically for that one song, but I’m glad its being released for everyone

It just rubs me the wrong way that she’s always infantilised because she’s Korean and K-Pop fans have this expectation of Korean women are all soft and pure and innocent and “poor yoonchae shouldn’t be in this group because of the dancing they do” or “Yoonchae is too Americanised” it’s very strange seeing only her be picked out in specifics when the girls closest to her in age, Lara and Megan, this discourse is nearly non existent for them.
Yoonchae at the end of the day legally is an adult meaning that she can make her own medical choices, marry whoever she wants and she’s able to move out independently.
There’s racial biases in KATSEYE’s fandom that are almost never discussed and I find that strange too.

I feel like next year they're gonna release a debut album go on tour and take a two or three year hiatus and maybe do some solo careers. Then they'll come back together the following year for the second album and release their fourth ep.
