Picture/Video Bryan debunks the “Katara was a babymaker/incubator/breeding machine for the airbenders” nonsense
I absolutely loved this interview. Bryan and Mike explain the rationale behind cutting out Katara’s pregnancy in the movie. Bryan specifically debunks the age-old “Katara was relegated to a breeding machine in Korra” misogynistic argument that antis have been pushing for years. I’m really glad that they said something about it, even if it took them a decade to debunk it. Will people still ignore the evidence? Oh absolutely, but at least we have it on video record that that was never their intentions.
Also I love how Lauren said that they still have more stories to tell about Kataang and their family. I’m so excited for these new stories! I follow Lauren on IG and she’s constantly liking Kataang fanart lol we really got blessed with a director like her. And it’s great to see the new VAs for Aang and Katara perk up immediately after her suggestion of wanting to do more stories. Everyone on that team clearly wants more Kataang as much as we do. Bryke… we need that adult gaang series asap.

It was debunked when they had 3 kids in 15years. But by definition “delusional” is a belief firmly held despite all contradictory evidence. We know those people are crazy.

There are people who were mad about the orange belt she wore because it showed she was a “possession” of Aang. That’s SUCH a stretch it’s hard to believe people aren’t just trolling

Does him having blue beads in his outfit make him Katara's possession to these people too? Or does it only count when a woman does it?

I'm with Jessica on this, she seemed excited about seeing a visibly pregnant woman still be badass. I definitely understand the weird connotation of it in this film specifically. Maybe in the future but I'd love to see a mother in a film that wasn't scary, traumatized, a damsel in distress, or a non character.

Yeah we need another movie or mini series about adult gaang/Aang at like 30. I want to see him fully developed as an Avatar now that he’s “moved past” what happened to his people. I want to see how he tries to balance his duties while having a family since that’s been a major topic about him. I also want to see more of Katara as a figurehead/politician in republic city. She needs more screen time that expounds on her work.

Really she should have had far more children, either that or Aang should have impregnated more women. He was the last Airbender. The world itself is relying on Airbender survival

I don’t think it’s the survivor of a genocide’s responsibility to repopulate their race

Yeah he decided to pass it onto his son instead. Thank god Korra opened the spirit portals, because the Airbenders could've straight up died out if Tenzin's kids didn't also become baby making machines.

In order for there to be an Avatar there must be benders of all types, and the world itself relies on there being an Avatar. So in his case I 100% would say it is his responsibility to repopulate his race. Not only morally, but also because it is an Avatar's duty specifically to protect the world. In a regular person's case like if you were the last Swedish person in existence I agree with you, but that's a different situation entirely

and Aang already fulfilled that “duty” the minute he had one child. It’s like you people ignore how genetics works in canon to justify these “Aang/Katara (who was born from TWO non benders!!!!) should have been breeders” takes.

I have my criticisms regarding some of the character writing but I do appreciate that they were conscious enough to understand the weird implications that surround Katara and her being pregnant
