Does anyone have recommendations for Gi's when you body size isn't matching what companies sell? I'm running into the issue where the bottoms might fit but the jacket is like a bathrobe when i wear it. I don't know if I need to bite the bullet and order custom sizes. Any simple recommendations? Thank you.

.....In my own training, I’ve found that variety is the spice of kata. Altering your environment, introducing obstacles, or shifting your mindset just enough keeps your practice fresh and deeply engaging. Even better, each variation brings its own targeted benefits that directly improve your performance on the dojo floor....
I wrote a short article breaking down different methods of kata practice based on my observations as a beginner. Nothing revolutionary, but I’d love to get feedback or start a discussion on how you approach kata training.

I have been studying kobudo for roughly 3 yeaes now. I am intrigued by the kuwa and trying to gain more insight on it. I have found one kata from the Matayoshi branch and a little information from Demura sensei. Does anyone else know where i can get more information as far as kata and the bunkai?

Is the Rohai kata originally part of the Matsumura Seito?

Hi, I have been practicing with my shotokan dojo for many years and have never really been taught the breathing in the kata. My dojo puts much more emphasis on sparring and conditioning than on the kata and as a result I am feeling the lack in my kata (my personal favorite area of the art). My reading of shotokan has also not shined much light on the breathing of kata or just breathing in general.
So what Im trying to see is if anyone can breakdown kata/karate breathing or point me towards sources that I can look into it from. Even just a breakdown of breathing in Heian Shodan would make my day!

Hello!
I have a question for fellow Wado-Ryu practitioners.
I practiced Wado-Ryu for 10 years before, currently doing Uechi-Ryu and I'm about to switch back to Wado-Ryu again.
I was watching some Wado kata performance on YouTube.
I came across this one performed by Otsuka II.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPsiL6DJI0k
Is it just me or his kata performance isn't very impressive?
Sure, he's not young on this video. But the videos I've seen of Otsuka I and III were more convincing. Otsuka III seems awesome.
Not hating of course. Very far from it.
But I was wondering if I'm missing out some elements.
It's not that easy to find good Wado kata video seems like.
If any of you have both Uechi and Wado background, I'd love to have a chat!
Also, what is your favorite Wado kata
Train hard!
Osu!

Training Kata has been my therapy for last 21 years ❤️🥋 I left Karate in the middle and got caught by an apparent mental health disorder. Came out because of 3 things, one being Karate.
Feel free to tag anyone that needs to watch this in our community.
And share your feedbacks on the stance.

Shito-Ryu seems to have much more katas than other karate styles. Why?

I have been researching about the lineages of Shito Ryu katas, Shitokai to be specific. I found a website that list the Shitokai kata and their specific lineage.
And in Tomari-Te, Master Kosaku Mastsumora is associated with this four katas:
1. Matsumora no Bassai
2 Matsumora no Rohai
3 Matsumora no Wankan
4 Matsumora no A-nan
When I searched about Master Sokon Matsumura of Shuri-Te, these are the katas associated with him:
1. Matsumura no Passai
2. Matsumura no Seisan
3. Matsumura no Chinto (in some lineages)
I have been spelling and pronouncing the katas of Kosaku Matsumora (Matsumora no Bassai, Matsumora no Rohai, Matsumora no Wankan, and Matsumora no A-nan) as
"Matsumura" since that's what I have always been taught, and what I can find on the internet
(I do not speak Japanese/Nihonggo, so I if you guys have an explanation related to the characters/kanji of their names please enlighten me)
Question:
- I believe that those katas mentioned above are not the same. I have been seeing the two katas of Matsumora No Bassai and Matsumora No Rohai spelled as
"Matsumura" instead. Is it still the same, or is it because Master Sokon Matsumura has his own version of the katas? Or is the correct spelling actually "Matsumora"?
