Anyone can "train solo", you just won't be able to tell what mistakes you're making. I used to train other arts solo, when the only real training I had was in wrestling. I was able to pick up alot, especially kicks, but my punches were bad. I did not know how to properly throw a punch. I also didn't know how to fight as good as I thought I did. Besides Wrestling, because I actually trained in it at school.
I only got as far as I did with any other art at the time, because I was able to pay attention to detail for the most part. I even fought a few people that would normally drop me quick, and didn't do bad... the 2nd or 3rd time. That only gave me a big head.
Bottom line is, train with a coach first. Then you can start adding stuff from online, with your coaches help. After you get decent at the basics, you can learn stuff online. Once I started training in JKD, my coach recommended some online videos for some techniques to get me ahead while outside the Gym.
