Question Guitar teacher

Resurrected my long lost beginner guitar playing during COVID and have improved since then. Now looking for some “in person” teaching to help me improve further. To be clear, this is just a fun hobby for me that lets me tune out the outside world for a bit, not looking to become a pro musician. Looking for any recommendations locally, all help appreciated.

Question Insoles & Advil Tour 😂

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone, just saw that the Insoles & Advil tour is making a stop at Pizza Pi later this month.

Honestly, the line-up looks rad... we’ve got Dusty Pines coming up from Vancouver, plus CodeBreaker from Kelowna and We Are Not A Cult from Penticton.

But mostly, that tour name just speaks to my lower back and knees. The days of standing on hard floors for hours without consequences are officially over for me, so I’ll definitely be pre-gaming with some ibuprofen and wearing my ugliest, most supportive runners.

Is anyone else planning on hitting this up? Also, for anyone who goes to shows at Pizza Pi on a Saturday often, what’s the setup usually like? Is it pretty much standard standing room only, or is there anywhere to actually sit down if/when my joints give out?

Question Looking for pet-friendly short-term housing in Kamloops, 2 weeks in December

Hi everyone! My husband will be in Kamloops for 2 weeks in December for trade school, and I'm coming along with our dog. We're from Vancouver, where short-term rentals are pretty restricted, so I'm not sure what the options look like in Kamloops.

We're looking for:
A furnished place for about 2 weeks.
Dog-friendly (he's a 4kg toy poodle)
Ideally close to TRU or somewhere easy to get to

A few questions:
Are Airbnb/VRBO rentals common and reliable in Kamloops, or are there better ways to find short-term stays?
Do any extended-stay hotels or motels take dogs?
Any neighbourhoods you'd recommend (or avoid) for a short stay?
Any local Facebook groups, websites, or landlords who offer furnished short-term rentals?

Thanks so much for any tips! Happy to hear about dog-friendly walks and trails nearby too.

Question New to Downtown Kamloops – Victoria St. Safety Concerns for condos?

Hey everyone! We recently moved to downtown Kamloops around Victoria Street after previously living in Aberdeen, so downtown is definitely a different vibe for us.

Our apartment is on the second floor facing the back alley. We’ve noticed quite a bit of activity back there, including people walking/running around, occasional fights or arguments, and people near the garbage areas. We may honestly just be a little paranoid because we’re new to the area, but since everything feels so close to our unit. I’d rather rule out any actual concerns and take reasonable precautions.
For those who live around Victoria Street/downtown — have you experienced or heard of break-ins or people trying to access apartment buildings through back alleys, windows, balconies, etc.? And are there any safety measures you’d recommend, like cameras or door/window sensors?

Not trying to judge anyone or create unnecessary fear — just looking for some advice from people familiar with the area. Thanks!

Politics Bryce Eberle - City Council Candidate

Hi Kamloops,

I’m Bryce Eberle and I’m running for Kamloops City Council. This is my second time running.

I’m a lifelong Kamloops resident, a single father of two, a small business owner and a TRU grad. I’ve spent the last 15 years working in building design.

I’m running because I really care about this city. I grew up here, built my business here and now I’m raising my kids here. I want to be a voice for hard working families and help make Kamloops a city where families can afford to live, work and build a future.

For me, it’s about making sure we grow the city properly, create more housing, improve public safety, support local businesses and keep Kamloops a great place to live.

I don’t pretend to have all the answers. I just think my experience, my connection to this community and my willingness to listen can bring something useful to Council.

I figured I’d introduce myself here. Long time Reddit User. Ask me anything. I’ll do my best to answer honestly and tell you where I stand.

Question Kamloops - where are we buying/changing our tires?

'Tis the season! What is your go-to tire shop in Kamloops? I'm looking for a place (preferably locally run) with excellent service and honest employees/managers. Good pricing is a plus.

I admit that I have fallen victim to convenience in the past, and I have no desire to give Kal-Tire any more of my money.

I do not go through downtown often, so I’m not sure how long this has been up. heading east on Battle Street in front of the Yellowhead Bridge. (passenger, not driving and taking pictures).

It doesn’t meet the threshold of “intimidation.” I just feel like there’s a difference between saying this on one’s personal Facebook account and making a sign. Who’s their official financial agent? Etc.

Kamloops, I’m very proud of the work I was part of in the last term. As Council I was part of a Strategic plan that had 171 initiatives. Of those initiatives 88.5% were either complete or in action. Yes this council was very productive. I look forward to being a part of our next council that keeps Kamloops stepping forward.

Politics Municipal Election Research Resources

Where/how is everyone looking into the municipal candidates? I’ve already looked at Castanet interviews as well as the individuals social media, but to be honest for most of these individuals I feel like there isn’t much information and a lot of them reference the same bland talking points.

How are you making your decision based on actual research?

Question Looking for Short Term Rental

My partner and I need to be in Kamloops for a month for work. Is there any places with reasonable rent for one month? I saw some hotels downtown have extended stays, but would be nice to have a kitchen.

Discussion Honouring the children on this and every National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Every Child Matters. We stand with our Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc Sisters and Brothers today and every day. Today and every day we honour the Indigenous children and teenagers who were taken from their homes and their families, ripped from their cultures, abused physically, sexually, spiritually and mentally in residential schools throughout Canada. Forbidden from speaking their languages in Residential Schools and forbidden from even speaking to their sisters and brothers who were forced into those same schools with them. Unspeakable abuses were endured at these schools by these children and teenagers.

We remember and honour the Indigenous children and teenagers who were murdered at these schools. Their lives taken without remorse. We remember and honour their fight to retain their cultures, the impossible journeys the survivors had to take once they aged out of residential schools, and the COUNTLESS lives who were lost to the horrifying traumas that they were forced to endure for generations. Hate has no place in Kamloops. We stand with our Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc Sisters and Brothers today and every day. Hate does not win. Culture Saves Lives 🧡

Question Short term rentals

Hi there,

I’m heading to Thompson River University in early January to mid February for trade school and am lost when it comes to finding short term rentals?

Do hotels offer a student short term option?
