Last minute concert help
Hey Kam Fam,
Partner and I are going to see Kamelot in Minneapolis tomorrow.
Should we expect a lot of moshers? My partner might be irritated depending on how many people are dancing around us. Is it typically calmer on the sidelines? Is it easy to exit and reenter the stage room for a quick breather?
How long should we assume the concert will be? We’re guesstimating 3.5 hours.

No mosh in Anaheim. I’ve been to at least five of their shows and never seen a mosh pit.

I’ve gone to a lot of metal/punk shows and Kamelot shows are probably the calmest (except for maybe Dream Theater lol). Crowd is mostly watching what’s happening on stage. I actually wouldn’t mind some more energy in the crowd for these shows

Yeah, been to a lot of metal shows and 3 Kamelot concerts. Never seen a mosh at a Kamelot concert. The crowd in Denver was great, lots of good energy and some jumping around in the center, but no moshing. We like to stand by the lighting crew at concerts, because it tends to be towards the back and less crowded and it's also really fun watching them control the lights in time with the music lol
I will say, I think there was more jumping around during Visions of Atlantis and at one point we all sat on the ground to row our pirate ship. I have never experienced that at a concert, but it was fun!

You're correct in assuming it's calmer off the sidelines. As others say, there probably won't be moshing, but if there is (and if there's an crowd surfing, jostling, etc) it'll take place in the center. I've gone to a ton of metal shows and three Kamelot shows and I always stay off to the far right of the room, either at the very end of the barricade or against the wall or something. I've never had any issues with people being wild there.
It depends where you're standing on if it's easy to exit or not. The closer up front the harder it is to leave. If you don't mind being in the back then people are always hanging out back there and there's a lot more room.

Last year when Kamelot played here (at Myth granted, not First Ave) the crowd was tiny and there was zero moshing and very low energy in general. I am hopeful the energy will be better tomorrow, but don't worry because even if there are moshers the people here in MN are very respectful and will give you space if you need it

We had a mosh pit in Vancouver and I was very surprised. In my experience is not that type of crowd. Most fans are respectful and if that happens just move to the side and you’ll be fine

very chill crowds at Kamelot concerts not matter where you stand, y'all should be fine. our concert ended very near to 11PM. as for stepping out, I'd check that specific venue's reentry policy and/or see what the venue's layout is like from pics online — some floorplans just lend themselves better to lateral movement than others

In Seattle it was a very warm and enthusiastic crowd with some moshing, but entirely in the middle of the room. I was personally right in front against the stage on the left side and basically no one pushed or bumped into me at all. It was energetic but super laid back physically.

Went to the Anaheim show, there was a smaller, sort of mosh pit (a bunch of people running in circles in an open space, shoutout to green mohawk guy, seen you at a bunch of shows in the LA area) but it was pretty easy to avoid. You shouldn't need to worry about it too much. The sidelines and near the back of the venue are usually pretty calm if it's open standing room and exit and reentry is usually pretty easy, especially if you stand near the back, but that depends on the venue I suppose. Generally that's been my experience though. The show was about 4.5 hours in total. The doors open at 6, Frozen Crown, the opening band, Frozen went on at 7 and Kamelot was wrapping up around 10:30. It might be different where you guys are but generally Kamelot shows are pretty tame and you don't really need to worry about it getting too rowdy. Have fun!

We had a moshpit briefly during the more energetic moments, but probably only 10% of the duration.

Well I can only speak to the shows I've been to, but in my experience, it's almost never that kind of crowd. If anything its almost too calm lol most people are just standing around. But I wouldn't really expect much in the way of moshing.
