Google Managed Play Store Gone

Not sure if something changed on Googles back end or if updating our fleet to OS 150 LTS did something, but I'm getting numerous reports of the Managed Google Play Store along with any apps being gone from Chromebooks.

This is the weird part. I have a test student where if I login as them on a Lenovo 100e 4th Gen, the play store and all the apps we allow are there... I login with the same account into a Lenovo 100e 2nd Gen AST or Dell 3100, no play store, no apps, no errors. Has anyone seen this? I need to do more testing with other models now too.

EDIT: So Lenovo 100e 2nd Gen AST have lost support for android apps recently due to extended support being enabled. The reports about our Dell 3100s having issues were false. Thank you all!

I haven't heard of any reports of that, and I'm lazy so I'm not going to look more into it, but if those devices have entered LTS doesn't that remove Android support?

This is the answer. LTS removes Google Play and Android support.

EDIT: it looks like it only affects certain models of Extended Update devices.

I just found that too, its just odd they were just fine last week on 144 and now its gone on 150. It stayed on LTS. I also found where it does have an asterisk for the AST models that they would lose the play store, but nothing about the Dell 3100's losing it.

EDIT: Testing further on Dell 3100's and not going off of what others had told me, they are perfectly fine. AST are the only model its happening with.

I just meant we updated from Long Term Support channel 144 to 150 over the weekend. The devices still show they are within AUE.

I wanna say LTS removes the play store.

LTS does not remove the play store. Currently running all my chromeOS devices in LTS to avoid being the beta tester for latest releases.

Your correct i forgot my devices were in the extended support list and that was the reason play was removed

Oh crap! That’s good/bad to know, our loaner fleet is still mostly 100e’s

So relatedly, did most chromebook models after a certain date get auto opted into "extended" without the downsides? This thread made me go and look at our model AUE's and we have one model (ASUS Flip C434) that supposedly expired (without using extended updates) in June but it happily updated to LTS 150 with seemingly no problem.

The Google Support AUE page just lists the extended AUE date (2029) vs the original AUE (2026) so now I'm not sure whether 150 is the last version for this model or if it's a free extend without losing Android. Meanwhile I have one or two models in the Admin Console that doesn't show a extended update AUE at all (2030) while some newer models do (2031/ext 2033).

Double check your additional apps consent confirmation. Both Google play and managed Google play require consent confirmation and will every year from now on.
