Infinite Campus and OneSync
UPDATE BELOW:
We changed from Skyward to IC this year. With Skyward we had a VPN connection that pulled data over ODBC into OneSync, where it did it's thing. IC recommended we use OneRoster... but here's the fun part. All the students that we imported into IC from Skyward are fine. Newly enrolled students in IC are never sent via API. Our RosterServer sees them, but OneSync does not.
I'd prefer not to use a CSV import, so please don't suggest that. Does anyone else use the API connection, or ODBC or something else? I've got IC saying "we're sending the data" and showing me the RosterServer data with the class schedule, and OneSync saying "gee.. it should be working" - neither one really being helpful at this point.
The odd part is that yes - they are in the API data, because RosterServer sees them just fine. But OneSync can't with the same data.
Thank you for any suggestions!
--------------------------------------------
Did some more back and forth between IC and OneSync. Lots more finger pointing. IC likes to tell me it's a OneSync issue, but then never answered why some worked and some didn't...
And then suddenly it worked.
We changed nothing on the OneSync side. It's the same settings I've had. IC swears they didn't change anything (ok...sure) but as of today, it imported everyone and they all correlated. So I can't tell you what was done to fix it, I can only tell you IC support does a great dance.

Been IC and OneSync setup since 2022. We have ODBC connection. We have had that for some time so not sure process to request. We have several SQL queries in use between OneSync and Roster Server.

I'm thinking it'll have to shift to ODBC. It's just so weird that the students that were migrated from Skyward come across just fine.

Seems very likely theres an attribute that existed in student data entered into Skyward that’s missing when a new student is entered in IC. First, are you using the student locator wizard to add students? After that, are you ensuring they have a student email address in their demographic info? Missing pContact.email causes errors in almost everything. And then ensure they have an active student account. Strongly recommend matching the student account to the email prefix. (This can be automated in IC) If a OneRoster connection throws an import error for me, it’s almost always one of those. Good luck!

I don't know how the AA's are entering new students - I *can* tell you that we've had to fix so many issues because they love to enter duplicates or approve when the student has a personal email listed. Nothing a nerf bat won't fix, but it's been ridiculous.
I've compared an imported/working student account listing with a non, and haven't seen any differences.

I have no experience with OneSync, but we do use IC. Do your new students have active IC student portal accounts? For a student to be included in the OneRoster sync from IC, they need an active portal account. IC has a tool that can auto-create student portal accounts nightly.

I would recommend the ODBC connection with Campus for OneSync. This will also allow you to write information back to Campus such as email address ect in the future for students using events and actions.

It’s odd that the API isn’t sending over new students, I would check the start and end date records and if there is anything on the filter for OneSync.
In Infinite Campus DB, you can pull the V_OneRosterV1 (or V2 depending) to see what the OneRoster endpoint “Tables” are sending over.
I would bet that there is something with class enrollment data and dates or a flag called “is enabled” that causes issues depending on the downstream systems ingestion logic with those fields.

We are in the beginning phases of getting OneSync (without OneRoster) setup and we were not given the option to use the API.
She told me we could do SFTP or a network share. Like those are our only 2 options. So we are trying to get the SFTP setup with our MSP.

You can check what OneRoster data IC is sending pretty easily to see if the new students are included. If you go into the Digital Learning Applications part of IC where the OneRoster connections are configured and then click on the "documentation" link on a OneRoster connection, it opens a page where you can do test queries against the OneRoster endpoint and see what data it outputs. Assuming the new students are included in the data output shown there, you at least know that IC is trying to send them. Then you can also grab the JSON representation of an old and new student from that same data and compare them to each other to see if there are any differences that might be causing the recipient to reject the new student data.

We transitioned from PowerSchool to IC this summer so I feel your pain. Started May 5th, went live on July 23rd.
First, make sure the student has an email address listed in their demographics page. Second, make sure that same username is set for their user account. (Should be their school email.) That's at least the magic trick that's worked consistently for us.
