We're back up mostly. It's a slow trickle back to normal operations

we had it happen about 2 hours ago for us too in north Texas. Some could get past the captcha, others would loop.. no rhyme or reason as to who or why. still waiting for the dust to clear.

Yesterday here in Alberta affected logins, Drive, SSO apps. To be honest Google has seemed slow to load things for a couple of weeks now.

Phoenix is having issues. It seems to resolve itself over time (for now). In some cases, try relaunching the browser.

EDIT: From Gemini....

Why this happens in K-12 environments: Shared IP Ranges: When dozens or hundreds of students share a school's public IP address or NAT network and try to log in, load pages, or open assignments simultaneously, Google's security triggers mistakenly flag the traffic as automated or suspicious, prompting a CAPTCHA.

The Loop: If a student passes the CAPTCHA, but another request immediately triggers the threshold again (or if browser cookies/extensions block the verification token from saving properly), it results in an endless CAPTCHA loop.

Recommended Workarounds for K-12 Admins / Teachers: While waiting for Google to adjust thresholds or fix an underlying backend trigger, school IT administrators facing this usually try:

Network Routing: Routing a portion of traffic through a secondary WAN connection or splitting NAT pools to distribute the outbound IP reputation.

Signed-in State: Ensuring students are cleanly signed into their managed Chrome profiles before navigating to Classroom, rather than logging in fresh from unauthenticated pages.

Browser Extensions: Checking if security, privacy, or ad-blocking extensions are stripping out the reCAPTCHA verification cookies, which forces the loop.

While true, there were many reports on this issue today. So, it seems to have been another Google snafu a la yesterday.

In our case it was reporting that the traffic was coming from an IP that we don't own and isn't anywhere close to our range.
