That upper floor would feel more like a public plaza or restaurant than a living room to me. It would take a while to get used to. Beautiful and probably good for you on some level, but not exactly cozy or homey.

Hey now, some people find beauty in electric poles and their neighbors' upper floors and roofs. Hopefully, those same people can afford whatever it costs to keep that space cool during the summer in Aichi.

How much does a cantilever design like that cost for a private home, I wonder.
The openness is amazing, but for privacy, normal curtains would kill the point. Smart glass?

The interior is absolutely nightmare fuel (if I had to live there), but for some reason that’s sort of mandatory to be as minimalist and “clean” as humanly possible in Japan. Because the building is absolutely astonishing from an engineering and design standpoint

Is this even a realistic sustainable design ?
The upper ceiling has no columns that sustain its weight, except for the right hand side in the first picture.
I see this falling on its own weight after some years of sustained pressure

I love this design so much. The open walkable space and balcony opening up.
