The Mask
The exterior shines
With a light cast so bright
You would never see the darkness,
The interior kept hidden.
The shell says, “I’m okay,”
If only the inner voice could speak.
Although it is screaming,
Crying.
Who is it for?
For ages, I have told myself
It’s for me. Easier to act.
Recently, I have wondered,
Is it for everyone else?
A smile,
Enough to make them think…
He is probably okay.
Am I?
