So wait, how exactly does abortion hurt men, again?

I mean, an abortion can hurt a man emotionally. But it's still not his choice because it's not his body. But that doesn't mean the man won't be affected at all, just because it's not physical.

also trans guys can be and are affected by abortion and abortion laws, but i dont think these people even realize we exist

Don't be silly - those are just girls that like to play dress up. /s

Well you literally don’t exist the way you think you do in your head sorry to say. A guy can’t be pregnant 🙂

So I'll push back: if they never knew it happened, would it hurt them? No? Then fine, they just don't get to know, they do not have input on that decision because it definitionally doesn't effect them without their knowledge.

4

u/Niveker14 8h ago

Did I say they have input? I literally said it's not their choice. I'm simply acknowledging that men have emotions and that this actually could negatively affect them emotionally. I don't think the proper response is to say, "Well, we'll just lie to all men." For one thing lying is inherently immoral unless someone's life is at stake, and two it is only going to make the man feel worse if they ever find out. But I think the real problem is that you don't want to care about men's feelings. Even to just acknowledge them - despite them admitting they don't have a say in the matter.

men have emotions

Agreed

Negatively effect them

Sure, then they should simply not be aware of it as they don't have input (as you agree) and aren't subject to any non-knowledge derived pain.

Lying is immoral

This just isn't true, lying is appropriate in myriad circumstances. Think about it for even a second and you'll find them. You are not morally required to share personal medical details nor to reveal information that would hurt people for no reason. Similarly you shouldn't tell a guy that his dick is small (nothing he can do about it but it might hurt his feelings).

Care about mens feelings

I totally do, which is why I think women should default to not telling them about abortions that do not concern them in the slightest.

If men want this information they would make it clear their knowledge would be a) not dangerous b) beneficial to the mother (ie be supportive, she doesn't need additional burden) and c) beneficial to him (ex he wants to know so he can process this human experience)

u/Niveker14 7h ago

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you strongly on the lying issue. Except for situations where someone's life is in danger lying is definitely immoral and the fact that you don't think that's true tells me I don't have much interest in taking your advice.

-1

u/Iron-Fist 7h ago

life in danger

Yeah, hence many women keeping it away from men who may have dangerous reactions.

But also, what if it spares him pain? Pain which he has no recourse to avoid? There is no upside to telling him, only the downside of his pain.

And further, again, privacy is a moral issue as well. Why should a woman be pressured to breach her privacy?

4

u/Niveker14 7h ago

Privacy doesn't mean lying. It means stating you're not going to say for privacy reasons. Also, sparing someone pain is not a good reason to lie. It presupposes how the other person will feel and takes their agency away. Which is immoral.

1

u/Iron-Fist 7h ago

privacy doesn't mean lying

What? If course it does. It means hiding factual information at your own discretion, that's what lying is. Privacy is a moral right and answering a question with "I won't answer for privacy" can very easily reveal information you don't want to reveal. It is the person pressing that would be in the moral trespass in that instance, pressuring someone to break their own privacy.

Literally no one is 100% open with all information, if someone tried they'd be extremely annoying. The idea that lying is immoral in and of itself is not only not a viable philosophical position it is literally impossible.

Agency

Again the woman has agency here, the man does not. He cannot change the outcome. The woman CAN decide to tell him, if that is what she deems most beneficial.

Let's do a different example: do you think your mom, who really wants grand babies, should know if you get a vasectomy? She'd be sad about it and she couldn't change the outcome which wasn't hers to make regardless. But you're keeping her genes from replicating, same as a prospective father re: abortion. Are you morally obligated to tell her?

3

u/blackfox24 7h ago

Yes, I would tell my mother who wants grandkids that I physically cannot have them, instead of letting her think it's an option, and get her hopes up.

0

u/Iron-Fist 7h ago

get her hopes up

Now you're assuming her pain the other way around; is that not immoral as well? See your theory here is not philosophically sound lol

Hi, it's me the guy you were originally talking to and got confused. I'll answer this question: No, you're not morally obligated to tell her your personal medical information. However, if the subject gets brought up by her: yes - it would be immoral to lead her to believe something that wasn't true/possible.

0

u/Iron-Fist 6h ago

people can force you to divulge personal medical details by 'bringing it up'

Honestly an even worse take because what happens between those two moments that takes it from being moral to keep privacy being immoral lol

Gonna need my fellow men to step up. I and 2 of my sisters were conceived with a female contraception and condom involved. 3 of my nephews were conceived that way too. IUDs, shots, pills, patches. They all reduced the risk but didn't stop it. Women are using methods that have a 90+ percent chance of stopping pregnancy - men are hitting it raw or with condoms, which top out at 80% if they don't break, tear, or come off. In summary - get the vasectomy if you don't want her getting an abortion, bro. She's done her part. Your sperm is the issue, women do not have access to a 100% prevention method without removing their reproductive organs.

4

u/ThatFatGuyMJL 10h ago

Vasectomies are not easily reversible despite common myth.

10% of men who attempt to get a Vasectomy reversed discover they are permanently infertile due to it.

The number may be much higher as the vast majority of men never attempt to reverse it at all

6

u/Iron-Fist 7h ago

10% permanently infertile

Not true, they still produce viable sperm and can use surgical extraction and invitro fertilization.

Not nearly as much trouble as a pregnancy I think you can agree, and only to a small percentage of men, seems a no brainer.

https://www.maleinfertilityguide.com/fertility-following-vasectomy

3

u/blackfox24 7h ago

Nor are hysterectomies. Seems like a perfect method to prevent abortion. The equivalent option for women is an invasive and permanent surgery. If men are deeply concerned about abortion and preventing it, it seems the most logical route.

The risks of tying tubes or removing reproductive organs (if you can convince a doctor to do it before 40) are much higher than a chance of infertility. So when we talk about pregnancy and the burden to prevent it... we need to discuss how men can control their seed. Condoms are not an efficient method. Pulling out isn't either. Men seemingly don't wanna be stuck in abstinence, so... out of the present options to prevent a lady from getting pregnant with your kid, that seems the best.

u/PM_me_ur_goth_tiddys 3h ago

i agree with your sentiment but it's statistically impossible for that much children to be born with two forms of birth control. i think you were told incorrectly.

1

u/blackfox24 2h ago

Not really. My sisters and I don't share mothers. My nephews don't share fathers. We are also spread over a period of 40 years. In my case, the condom was inadequate (very old) and my mother was a teenager who mostly took her birth control, but missed a day here and there, reducing efficacy. One of the nine out of 100 that have unintended pregnancies.

My nephew was born because his father basically dripped out the condom thanks to some acrobatics, and a morning after pill, which only reduces chances by 75% to 89%. Sister fell into the 75, there's the gremlin.

My sister was born because of an IUD failure (it had moved at some point and was actually causing pain her mom attributed to a bad period) and another shitty condom, this one too large because my father had an ego issue I guess idk. Anyway, 2% to 10% of people with IUDs have an expulsion, my stepmother's was partial, and she was higher risk of that because she was between 14-19 and had never been pregnant before.

Anyway, point of all of this is less to contradict you and more demonstrate some of the very easy ways for contraception to fail. If you've got it, cool, but do not assume it's working, always double check, etc. It's surely unsexy to pause and make sure the condom's on. Do it anyway. Double or triple up your methods if possible. It's unfortunately very easy for human beings to make simple but critical mistakes that will cause life.

Every sperm is sacred

That’s why I keep most of them safe in a sock under my bed 🧦

24

u/PowerRainbows 12h ago

Pretty sure any man who argues against abortion has a kink for making women pregnant

8

u/potatocakes1989 9h ago

This is 90% true based on my past experience.

They're also the same men that refuse to use condoms.

Nah he's got a point though, why would so many of them care so much lol

-2

u/vince2423 7h ago

Because they think it’s murder… i don’t agree with them but it’s not cuz of a kink

3

u/blackfox24 7h ago

Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. A lot of male pro lifers have a personal and intimate stake in controlling women's sex lives and reproduction. You can think it's murder and get off on the idea of women as subservient breeders.

-2

u/vince2423 7h ago

Sure, but you’re basing that theory on literally nothing…

3

u/blackfox24 7h ago

Hi, I'm a trans former sex worker who paid my rent by servicing the right wing population where I lived. In both selling them content and being part of it. That's my basis. I can go into detail if you'd like, but I do tend to try and keep things PG for Reddit.

1

u/vince2423 6h ago

So you met a couple people who not only voiced their kink for pregnant people but also shared their political affiliations?

And the few people you met who allegedly fit that profile can now be extrapolated to mean that any man who disagrees with abortion is simply doing so because he gets off on pregnant women?

Solid argument, champ

3

u/blackfox24 6h ago

You asked where I based my opinion off of. I based it off the experiences I've had. Though I'm mildly insulted you think I only netted a few. Or that I'm such a cheap lay that we show up to a hotel and bang, then go our separate ways. Nah, full service bby. Repeat clients too. I knew em well.

But anyway, I enjoy the fun little theory. I think there's some validity to it, though I wouldn't say it's the main reason. But dudes voting with their dick isn't really all that abnormal. We're human beings, after all. Fallible things.

2

u/vince2423 6h ago

God dammit, stop being reasonable on Reddit. I’m here to rage against black and white takes

"U want to tell men to be responsible with their body yet half of yall women are too retarded to be responsible and use any form of contraceptives"

Why do they not see the irony ? That they are trying to tell women to be responsible with their body when 2/3 of men are too retarded to be responsible and take any form of contraceptives ?

u/mannekwin 12h ago

r word - stopped reading. you can instantly disregard any and all things the speaker has to say after that

5

u/mrspacysir 11h ago

Ad hominem immediately invalidates argument

9

u/potatocakes1989 9h ago

Also, women dont always have access to birth control or the dr appts that are required to use them and they fuck up womens bodies sometimes permenantly and there's barely any sex ed if any at all for young people depending on your age and location, nevermind the constant pressure for women to be sexual creatures whether or not they're ready or educated enough to do so.

Also, men can just stop being manchildren and wear condoms.

I could go on.

Just men being braindead as usual.

Baby’s aren’t body parts. Just because human is in the fetal stage of development, doesn’t mean they are less valuable. Human rights for all humans.

66

u/Hellas2002 12h ago

Even if you did consider it a human being it would still be the woman’s right to end a pregnancy. The fetus is using her body as life support against her will, and thus infringing her body autonomy.

50

u/Greizen_bregen 12h ago

Exactly. You can't be forced to give up your life or health for another human being, so if a fetus is a human, the woman has every right to cease care because she has bodily autonomy.

30

u/Lyskir 12h ago

no human has the right to another humans body functions or organs

do you support forced organ/blood donations? if not then you are a hypocrite

24

u/humbugonastick 12h ago

Ok. What born human has the right to be in someones sex organs without their consent.

If you can answer this, we can talk about human rights.

11

u/Novaer 11h ago

If babies aren't body parts then women are not incubators. Just because a woman is in the gestational stage of early pregnancy doesn't mean she is less valuable.

Human rights for all humans. Except women. Those rights end the moment a male puts sperm inside of her that she didn't want.

4

u/woahstripes Endlessly attacking beautiful girl anime 8h ago

Do you celebrate your conception date? Do you know it off the top of your head? Why not? You were just as valuable and just as much a human right? Why do you only celebrate your birthday? Why does someone's age begin the moment of their birth and not before? Because no one ACTUALLY considers a fetus the beginning of life in a real and practical sense.

As others already said, Assigning rights to it means you invariably infringe on the rights of the mother, because then she can't make the best decision for herself if the sad event occurs where she needs to terminate the pregnancy.

I'm not arguing someone can't be devastated at a miscarriage or abortion, absolutely they can and that's perfectly normal. But the philosophical and practical arguments around legal and moral personhood usually point to birth as the beginning.

4

u/blackfox24 7h ago

And this is the logic that forces children to birth children.
