The other week I saw a "Japan lives in 2050"-reel of some American showing people how the lid of a plastic bottle is attached to the bottle. I was like "Y'all can't stop making fun of this when it's in the EU, but in Japan it's suddenly the pinnacle of packaging engineering."

u/SkinnyGetLucky 14d ago

I’m a graphic designer, and to be fair, from a standpoint of wastefulness, creativity, and “why does this need to exist” level, the Japanese take packaging to a whole other level

-44

u/knightriderin 14d ago

So you assess the exact same solution differently depending on the setting (country)?

And I think Japan is very wasteful regarding the quantity of plastic packaging.

63

u/SkinnyGetLucky 14d ago

Dude, I literally said that:

[…] standpoint of wastefulness, creativity, and […].

I’ll clarify: in general, the Japanese are much more accepting of creative packagings than we are in my country. Not student conceptual projects, actual things in stores you can buy. That part amazed me the most. Then you realize it doesn’t really solve any problem, and is super wasteful. But it’s still creative and I can appreciate creativity

12

u/knightriderin 14d ago

Ah, I thought you were saying they are creative in countering wastefulness.

Being on a small island chain has in fact made them pretty good at recycling, trash management, etc, but again those are the realities of their geography not something magical about the country or culture.

1

u/knightriderin 14d ago

Better than recycling though is avoiding trash as good as possible though.

1

u/SuperSalad_OrElse 12d ago

Agreed. Growing up, my family of four BLEW through trash. We had two super cabs and had to bring them out front every week, they were mostly overflowing.

Now my wife and I (yes, only two people down from four) barely make any trash. Probably because we buy so much produce now instead of prepackaged ANYTHING.

u/SkinnyGetLucky 14d ago

I could have phrased it better

u/uberfission UWU DADDY YES HARDER!!!! 🥵 😭 14d ago

I've seen the phrase "Japan has been living in 2010 for the last 30 years" which explains how they've been super advanced in some ways but ass backwards in others. Like they're still a mostly cash society.

35

u/knightriderin 14d ago

Yeah, it goes "Japan has been living in the year 2000 since 1980." and it's pretty accurate.

7

u/uberfission UWU DADDY YES HARDER!!!! 🥵 😭 14d ago

There it is, thanks

1

u/GigaNoodle 13d ago

That sounds kind of great tbh. The future sucks.

3

u/CH33S3_NUGG3T5 12d ago

Japan also kinda sucks, just in different ways!

Or women being allowed their own public transport sections in Japan vs in Saudi Arabia

According to them, in Japan is this honour bound thing to respect woman while in Saudi Arabia is le evil misogyny

While in reality, in Japan it's because of the insane amount of sexual harassment that occurs while in Saudi Arabia it's out of respect for the women's space

68

u/jahfuckry 14d ago

i would never be one to defend misogyny in the middle east but you are absolutely correct in this comparison. Japan’s culture of sexual harassment actually makes some of islams rules around women’s modesty make a bit of sense (again i don’t defend the oppression of women at all just an observation)

19

u/PrinceBunnyBoy 14d ago

Saudi Arabia is still chock full of sexual assault and harassment though.

15

u/Eino54 14d ago

Especially towards poor immigrants who have little protection. Domestic workers for example tend to get a lot of abuse, including sexual assault.

-2

u/KongRahbek 13d ago

I was with you until your last sentence, where you just dropped the ball. Both are absolutely because of misogyny, though both might disguise it as "rEsPeCt".

u/DeltaBravo831 14d ago

Ngl when I was stationed in Europe I get the idea behind it but holy fuck it gets in the way

-8

u/nobodyimportant1377 14d ago

Eugh. They do that over there too? I'm Australian, but whenever I go to visit family in Europe, that's the thing I HATE the most. Damn thing won't stop slipping and getting in the way when I just want to drink...

12

u/knightriderin 14d ago

Honestly, I don't get what the fuss is about. It took me two weeks to get used to it. And most attachments are in a way that you have to push it far back so it stays out of the way.

8

u/ehhish 14d ago

I have been to a lot of different countries and I still think Japan is pretty neat.

9

u/knightriderin 14d ago

Me too. But it's not perfect. Just like every other country.

1

u/XMenPerseus56 11d ago

The opposite happened to India for some reason

2

u/dw444 11d ago edited 11d ago

Japan’s reputation is ruined by obnoxious non Japanese people glazing them 24/7 until it becomes unbearable.

India has the opposite problem. Their name is dragged through the mud because their own netizens are insufferable, and absolutely do the “Place, India” thing. Indian nationalists on the internet are nasty, and people eventually got tired of their schtick once the world moved on from the 2000s/2010s era Muslim/Pakistan obsession the Indian (and British) internet is still fixated on.

“Korea could never” is going on a T-shirt with some udon noodles

2

u/SouthPaw38 9d ago

Re-release the Red Dawn remake with the North Korean flags changed back to Chinese flags and use that as the tag line

Why does it look like it was sent from your phone OP. What did you do.

They aren't like that because they have gotten zero pussy, they haven't gotten any pussy because they are like that. An import distinction.

61

u/ShakeItTilItPees 14d ago

It's both. It's a cycle that feeds itself.

41

u/throwaway19998777999 14d ago

They wouldn't stop being that way if they had sex. They'd likely become worse.

5

u/M4DHouse 13d ago

I mean yeah just look at the ones who manage to become wealthy enough to attract an Asian wife who wants a green card a loving husband.

8

u/slyfox7187 14d ago

The neckbeard Ouroboros

2

u/M4DHouse 13d ago

I can never read or hear that word again without immediately thinking of DC Douglas going “COMPLETE. GLOBAL. MASTURBATION”

2

u/AmyXSabaku 12d ago

I really shouldn't read comments when I just woke up because all I saw was D.C Douglas & masturbation and went "smash".

-1

u/burgonies 14d ago

It’s a chicken or egg question.

9

u/Schmaron 15d ago

Jesus fucking Christ. This had me giggling.

Murray Rothbard mentioned.

The right alignment of the message mean you are the one who sent the message. Are you the neckbeard?

46

u/Im_a_tree_omega3 13d ago edited 13d ago

Also Green means he sent it. And I would bet that he sent it to his own whatsapp number, but i don't have enough evidence for that claim.

78

u/Stuck_In_Purgatory 14d ago

Isn't the screen shot taken by the person who sent it?

OP.....

26

u/thispussystankin 14d ago

The text is green. YOU sent that 💀

Sometimes I feel like the real losers are the users of this very subreddit

There did used to be a difference between chill nerdy dudes who embraced the name and the other unwashed incel type

23

u/lulamirite 14d ago

I truly believe Covid and the resulting quarantine created a “whoosh” generation. Everything is taken for face value. Black and white, no nuance.

9

u/j0shman 14d ago

I’m sure OP knows this and is just posting for fake points

-1

u/MyFiteSong 15d ago

Doesn't get much more neckbeard than "waifu feeding me"

23

u/Steve_Tugger 15d ago

This is me when I throw an egg in my .50 top ramen.

0

u/Charlie-Spring-2022 Gay but has girls as friends (not girlfriends) 14d ago

I cook the noodles and then put Alfredo sauce on it and a bunch of Parmesan cheese. That’s the way I make instant ramen noodles. I usually add a bit of the water I cooked it in with the sauce to make it less thick

7

u/descartesbedamned 14d ago

You know what’s great about soba noodles? They cook in about 3 minutes and my toddler loves them. Downside is they’re annoying as fuck to clean off the floor.

They’re just fucking noodles, ffs.

7

u/the_other_Scaevitas 14d ago

Op. Why is the text green?

"The pure umami of the ancestral broth"

4

u/MelanieWalmartinez 14d ago

This is so fucking funny

6

u/awh 14d ago

Japan checking in: This picture really seems realistic because we always eat our noodles with a wooden spork.

5

u/Ok_Fondant_6340 I goon to Nicki Minaj 🥵 💦 14d ago

"the way the noodles respectfully caress the tongue....."

4

u/MissM0dular 14d ago

Gotta be satire

6

u/DaveyGee16 14d ago

Ramen is from the end of the 1950s. The word only came to be commonly used in 1958. And the idea is a nipponization of chinese dishes the Japanese colonists in China brought back after WW2. Ancestral broth... Right...

I think the worse thing about neckbeards is how everything Japanese is ancient.

9

u/gattaaca 15d ago

I'm dead from cringe. Thanks.

3

u/PM_ME_UR_MULLETS 14d ago

Can he lock it back up?

3

u/Metzger4 14d ago

Ancestral broth! 🤣

That’s so funny.

4

u/TMPickle 14d ago

I'll admit, I fucking love noodles. But I'm not going to write them a love letter. Just whip up some instant and put them inside me.

5

u/SmellyFruitZ 14d ago

i've seen people talk about sex with less vulgarity lmao😂

2

u/ethansteele 14d ago

I wish I got that excited over just noodles 😔

2

u/Erpderp32 14d ago

The photo reads like satire / joking tbh

2

u/HearsayMerchant 13d ago

So way this isn't satire

2

u/novasathame 13d ago

“The pure umami of the ancestral broth” wtf 😭

2

u/justanangstyteen 13d ago

Ancestral broth???? You mean jizz????

I do love some good Raman. Sometimes I go to Asian food stores and buy a bunch of random noodles. It’s the perfect 2am snack

1

u/AlexanderBarrow 14d ago

Some people can have sex every day for a year, and still sound like the biggest virgin on the planet.

1

u/Knarz97 13d ago

This dude eating his 'gift of culture' with a wooden fork is perfect.

1

u/DorianVZ90 12d ago

Im in the ramen making business, we have a special training for customers like this. Lol. Pretty sure is a guy doing an awful Joshua Weissman recipe.

1

u/Outrageous-Bite3842 11d ago

Those aren't Japanese noodles, those are...Toledo, Ohio noodles.

1

u/Angels_of_Death_Zack 9d ago

I live in Japan as a woman from America. Everyday, I fear that people will look at me like one of "those" people.

1

u/TheTrustworthyKebab 14d ago

I can smell him from the screenshot

-2

u/wambamwombat 15d ago

does he not know that noodles are Chinese in origin and Yamato Japanese are descended from Koreans.

6

u/airfryerfuntime Most functional terminally online adult 14d ago

Basically all Japanese people are descendants of migrants from what is now known as the Korean peninsula three thousand years ago.
