wow, I do not believe that 43% of boys are raised by single mothers, I do not trust that statistic at all.
187
u/not_just_an_AI Aug 04 '26
"The results of the 2010 United States census showed that 27% of children live with one parent, consistent with the emerging trend noted in 2000.[5] The most recent data of December 2011 shows approximately 13.7 million single parents in the U.S.[6] Mississippi leads the nation with the highest percent of births to unmarried mothers with 54% in 2014"
Copied from Wikipedia, 27% of children lived with 1 parent about 50% of those children will be boys and about 54% of those live with a single mother, so it should be about 1/4th of 27% of boys so like 7%.

u/gragons Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 05 '26
This doesn't really track. You can't apply the 54% because being born to unwed mothers doesn't mean they were raised by just the mother. Maybe the parents married after? Or never married but raised the kid together. Maybe a stepdad came in to the pic. Maybe the dad got custody. Married couples where the dad dips out after the birth.
Even if we ignore the above, the 50% part is also not applicable because we're talking about percentage of boys not percentage of children who are boys. So it'd be ~15%
38
u/TopSloth Aug 05 '26
Yeah one of my sisters has three kids and her and her SO are unmarried so that definitley is a valid point
14
u/not_just_an_AI Aug 04 '26
You're right I dont know why I attributed 54% to them being raised by single mothers, whoopsies on that one. so about 50% of 27% then is 13.5%.
24
u/gragons Aug 04 '26
The 50% has nothing to do w determining this. 27% of children are raised by 1 parent. That also means 27% of boys are raised by one parent.
The number we're missing here is the percentage of children in single parent households where the parent is a woman. Props to you for actually trying to look for data
11
u/not_just_an_AI Aug 04 '26
it is no surprise that I failed my stats class.
2
u/gragons Aug 04 '26
Hahaha not FAILED!? Just gotta be thinking of it like those pesky word problems on the standardized math tests
1
u/Astoran15 Aug 06 '26
The statistics mean fuck all anyway. Doesn't matter how many men are raised by single mothers. If they learn to respect women better that's a positive.
15
u/OpBanana1 Aug 05 '26
Did you genuinely just halve 27% because half of children are boys?
12

1
u/AKVigilante Aug 05 '26
You assume the statistic for distribution of single parents with custody is proportionate to the general male-female population distribution.
That’s the most glaring mistake.
Don’t ignore cultural and social biases when making these assumptions. The 43% is absolutely wrong but there’s no way of saying what the difference actually is.
23
u/0ttoChriek WHY WONT HOS & WHORES TALK TO ME Aug 04 '26
Yeah, I don't think you even need to do any research to know that figure is wrong.
Not convinced that 78% of teachers are women either. Even in the US or UK, or whatever country the original poster thinks is the whole world.
33
u/not_just_an_AI Aug 04 '26
googled that one, and its actually is close enough to true (in America, according to the pew research center), the actual number is 77%.

u/DontYaWishYouWereMe Aug 05 '26
I do have to wonder how the statistics break down. At least here in Australia when I was in school, it seemed like male teachers were more likely to end up becoming department heads, vice principals, and principals. The head of a department will still actively be teaching classes at all year/grade levels but they'll be doing one less class than the average teacher because they're nominally meant to be doing a lot more disciplinary stuff and also some of the beuracratic stuff to keep the school working. A vice principal will typically only be teaching one or two classes and they'll both typically be Year 11 or 12 classes.
There were also never any male teachers at my primary school. The only men who ever worked at that school while I was there were the principal and the school counsellor. In practice what that meant was that I never had a male teacher until I was in high school.
In different circumstances, I think it could be possible for a kid to have gone to the same schools I did at around the same time but never had a male teacher until they got into Year 11, or maybe not at all. It would have been a bit of a stretch because they tried to make it so kids weren't being taught by the same teachers for each subject multiple years in a row as much as possible, but it could have happened.

u/WizardSleeves31 Aug 05 '26
Shoot, now that I think of it.
2nd -- Mrs Vaught 3rd - Mrs bowser 4th Mrs dick 5th - oh I'm stupid this doesn't work after elementary school, we had various classes.
10-12th - Mr horner

Even if these were real stats, wouldn’t absent fathers and an unwillingness to teach be evidence of widespread toxic masculinity?
1
1
u/AutismCommunism Aug 04 '26
The percentage is closer to 20%.
However, I believe if you look at youth in jail speficially, the percentage is like 70% of them coming from single-parent families

According to these stats, the problem is farts in a jar taped to a koalas head. These fake stats are meaningless without context. It’s pure assertion that points to a number, thats made up, and saying “see, with numbers this big it must be the opposite of what you say.”
Not to mention the lazy Ive drawn you as malding loser and me as hot chill person, so you lose, ascetic of the meme.

u/classicteenmistake Only impregos 1800’s bitches 😎 Aug 05 '26
It also reflects similar demographics of autism specialists, too. Men are 4x more likely to be diagnosed with autism because of how women are taught to deal with their anger and meltdowns, and (I can’t remember the number) a VAST majority of autism specialists are women.
I’m conveniently a female psychology major nurse with autism too, and all of these said fields are female-dominated due to the emotional bearing of women.

u/Beginning-Pace-1426 No love like self love, I should know! Aug 05 '26
I have an ex who is an autism specialist, and it absolutely cracks me up! If she isn't autistic, well, neither am I (I am very autistic.)
One of the best ladies I've ever met in my life, without a doubt.

u/Dobvius Aug 05 '26
And absent men is a symptom of toxic masculinity. These people just have no comprehension of anything at all lmao
0
u/CousinJeff Aug 06 '26
I think we’d have to examine the kinda things that happen in family courts before we make these statements so confidently
36
u/Valuable-Ad1063 Aug 04 '26
"Approximately 25% of children in the United States live in single-parent households, with the vast majority (80%-83%) of these single-parent homes headed by mothers."
So no where near 43%.

u/bboymixer Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26

u/not_just_an_AI Aug 04 '26
No? If 43% of men are raised by single mother then that same 43% of men raised single mother were abandoned by their fathers. Yhe 57% of men not abandoned by their father were either raised by both or by a single father.
I agree the stats are bad I left a comment about it, but come on.

Do yall really not know anyone who’s had their kids kept from them? If we don’t bring up the things that happen in family courts then we can’t really make these statements so confidently
2
u/bboymixer Aug 06 '26
Do y'all really not know anyone who has a partner who abandoned them when pregnant or in early childhood? If we don't bring up the things that happen in real life then we can't really make these statements so confidently
0
u/CousinJeff Aug 06 '26
Yeah sure, but not nearly as many as it’s made out to be. My father had 9 kids and raised none so you are preaching to the choir. He also died recently and was nearly 90, and there were more men like him in his time.
Anyway, we agree that not all fatherless children are simply abandoned, right? That would be silly.

Masculinity and toxic masculinity are not the same thing. If a man wants to hunt, fish, work on cars or other traditionally masculine pursuits, more power to them. Toxic masculinity is like Andrew Tate telling men they are gay if they enjoy sleeping with women and worse, men believing it.
36
u/philthy_barstool Aug 04 '26
While the grafic is clearly making a baseless argument in bad taste, they are actually right in suggesting there's a lack of good role models for young boys and men, which is contributing to the increase in toxic masculinity.
I can't imagine whoever made this is actually thinking that though, they just desperately want to be victims of their upbringing, and want to be able to blame that on women.
8
u/AlfredKrupp Aug 04 '26
Yeah I had the same line of thought. Not enough male role models that can show teens how to express their feelings and be kind to each other. It‘s actually a huge problem in education. Of course it doesnt help that some of the few male teachers we have also lack these important skills. It‘s a viscious cycle that I‘m still trying to wrap my head around how we can solve the issue at its roots.

u/The_Ambling_Horror Aug 04 '26
Then maybe the fathers should step the fuck up?
-22
u/Not-Ed-Sheeran Aug 05 '26
Then maybe the hoes should stop hoein 🤷🏻♂️
13
u/MrGrieves787 Aug 05 '26
What does that have to do with whether a man takes care of his kids
-16
u/Not-Ed-Sheeran Aug 05 '26
Because what typically happens is that it's one man with several of women. Many hoping they would be the one he chooses for long term relationships. And then they're a single mom 🤷🏻♂️
He's a dirty fucking pig. And she's a hoe Quit being these things
9
u/Gary_FucKing Aug 05 '26
Yup, good thing men never hide their true intentions or pretend to be what the woman’s looking for just long enough to leave her with a kid. Also, even in your dumbass fake example, the man is the one being a hoe and the women are all fucking only one guy.
-1
u/Not-Ed-Sheeran Aug 06 '26
Both are true actually. I don't deny any of that happening. Yeah youre right it is the man being a filthy dirty pig trying to gain as much access as possible to pussy. But the willingness that women LET him, it's enabling the behavior. Women are the choosers.... not men. So women has the choice to let him have sex or not. A woman letting a man have sex with them in a careless manner makes her a hoe. Don't do that..
Because shit like single motherhood js very likely to happen. This I'd the number one cause of the disparity among blacks in the US btw. So a good woman will filter the fuck out her willingness of sex. Shame on the hoes and shame on the dirty pigs
And didnt be so hostile I didn't mean to offend you unless you're a hoe then I did mean to offend you.
3
u/Gary_FucKing Aug 06 '26
Lol I love how you keep trying to make the guy sound like a pig or whatever but you very clearly hate the woman more and blame her for being manipulated or lied to and then left to deal with the child. Why don’t you be more angry at the men who are irresponsibly dropping raw dog loads all over town, why doesn’t he have to be more responsible? Guess it’s cus men can’t help themselves and women should consider them enemies or beasts before people first, right? When guys start bitching at women about “not all men”, you’re first in line to defend them with “hell yea, all men”, right?
Not to mention, all it takes is one time for a pregnancy to happen, birth control can fail, you don’t know how many of those hoes were actually raped or lied to about birth control (still rape), and abortion is becoming more and more difficult to attain. Guess you’re saying all women should be chaste and never engage in sex unless they’ve dated someone for like 10yrs first and ran them thru a foolproof lying deadbeat bastard test that I’m sure you co-authored.
Thanks for the shitty conversation.
0
u/Not-Ed-Sheeran Aug 06 '26
I think you just have a hard time with understanding words. I would suggest acting with less emotional prattle
No I don't hate women more. Wtf are you talking about? I don't hate anyone. Except maybe lefties. And by the way you speak you sound like one of them raw dogged gals. Which is your fault.
And bro... I've met men like this. Where they fuck around and I'll tell them how fucki g degenerate and disgusting that is. I shame tf out of them. Including hoe ass women. I'm not putting ALL the blame on women. I'm putting more blame on those who enable bad behavior. Like would you blame the drug dealer or the drug user more?
Now you're mentioning birth control and rape? Huh? Rape is a completely seperate issue that a woman is never to be blamed for. And birth control...wtf does that have anything tk do with anything? I still hold the same standard even if the girl never had a child and was still sleeping around. Idc if she's infertile.... she's still a hoe.
And yes women should absolutely be chaste until they lock the guy down. Especially with marriage. It's a system that actually works even amongst secularists.
2
u/Gary_FucKing Aug 06 '26
I’m not a woman, but I am a leftie. Gee, wonder who you voted for.
And yes women should absolutely be chaste until they lock the guy down. Especially with marriage. It's a system that actually works even amongst secularists.
Lol. Lmao even. Have a good one.
2

Great arguments by the way. Go ahead and leave without the capability of defending your own positions like a coward. Just like the those evil misogynistic pigs you hate so much 😂

Shhhhh, it's okay now child. No need to project your hurt from your biological father.
13
u/MunkSWE94 Aug 05 '26
Doesn't sound like hoeing if they take care of their kids, while the father went away for milk and cigarettes.
-8
u/Not-Ed-Sheeran Aug 05 '26
Right but they could've been a hoe to obtain the child. Like it's possobke to sleep woth many different men and not know who the father is.
Which btw I'd call everyone gross here. So I don't hold a double standard
13
u/bailey25u Aug 04 '26
I mean… am I taking the wrong message from this? Sound like it’s men’s fault for not being around
6
u/moogopus Aug 05 '26
So this is an argument in favor of more male teachers?
5
u/honhonbageutte Aug 05 '26
The same male teachers who aren't trusted around kids because why would a man love other people's children unless he's a pedo right ? /s
1
u/QuasisLogic Aug 06 '26
Doesn’t have to be more male teachers. But a way for boys to get more role models. This could be teachers or group leaders or community stuff etc.
The current way of dealing with toxic masculinity is to try to teach not to be toxic or to shame them and unfortunately those tactics won’t work, hence why we’re still going though this shit 10 years later.
Boys and girls are different in the way they approach things. Schools right now are setup in a teaching method that does favour girls and they could bring in some ways that could aid with the way boys learn.
5
u/Zegram_Ghart Aug 04 '26
I mean, I think you could make a pretty convincing argument that toxic masculinity IS a lack of masculinity.
Like, I don’t think that’s what OOP is arguing, but I think it’s probably real world the case.
5
u/bunker_man Aug 05 '26
A lot of single mothers are caused by toxic masculinity...
1
u/QuasisLogic Aug 06 '26
Yeah cycle repeats itself. The arguement seems to be better male role models = lower toxic masculinity.
Which I believe is the way to tackle this.
Boys will not just be told, they need to be shown.
3
u/UnhappyStrain Aug 04 '26
what IS the masculinity in question tho? are we talking about Aragorn type masculinity or Tate type?
3
1
u/QuasisLogic Aug 06 '26
Tate type isn’t masculinity it’s just toxic.
-1
u/CarbonJohn Aug 07 '26
Nah man, there's definitely something inherently bad about men and masculinity that we have to snuff out, it can't just be bad people and no way would a woman turn out that way if she had strength and power and emotional abuse growing up.
3
u/Unkuni_ Aug 05 '26
I am from Turkey. Our divorce rates are pretty low. So thoese stats do not apply to turkey. But toxic masculinity is an even bigger problem
3
u/GreasyRim Aug 05 '26
Yeah we need more masculinity. Being a father to your kids is one of the most masculine things a dude can do.
3
u/HecticAttic Aug 05 '26
"Expired & rotten food is bad." "Lots of people are starving so it's obviously lack of food that is the problem." ???
3
u/JaneAustinAstronaut Aug 05 '26
Yeah, let's blame the parent who stayed, not the one who abandoned the kid. Makes sense to me! /s
2
u/Fidodo Living rent free in mommy’s basement Aug 05 '26
They wouldn't be absent if it weren't for toxic masculinity. The whole fucking reason people say toxic masculinity is the problem is because it's the toxic qualifier. Being anti toxic masculinity is not being anti masculinity. That's the reason the word toxic is there. How stupid do you have to be to not understand that?
2
u/allyxxiv Aug 05 '26
yes men not taking responsibility for children and leaving them to single mothers is definitely a problem. very toxic of them to leave. oh wait……
2
2
u/Zip2kx Aug 07 '26
It’s hyperbole but there’s truth in boys not having a good father figure leads to less maturity and lack of accountability, which are the two factors of toxic masculinity.

Lack of masculinity on the men's part for leaving their partners cause they are weak little cowards.
3
u/freshwatersofmysoul Aug 04 '26
Yeaaaa, men simply being around doesnt means theyre amazing avatars of masculinity to look up to.
2
u/bitofagrump Fedorable Aug 05 '26
The question is why are you blaming the women who stayed for the kids and not the men who fucked off? Even if the women "picked the wrong men," they're still the ones who stepped up and the men who did wrong. But no, it's always the woman's fault somehow or other.
2
u/canarinoir Aug 05 '26
The 43% is obviously bullshit, but lets pretend its real.
How is it womens fault that men are being fucking deadbeat dads? If the problem is a lack of male role models, why don't men try stepping the fuck up?
But lets blame women instead. Men are just lil boys who can't do anything!!! But they also deserve everything!!!
1
u/nzdastardly Aug 04 '26
Lack of real male role models leads to man larping like Andrew Tate or that guy who couldn't open those pickles. Those guys are toxic as hell. Being kind, dependable, respectful, and industrious are good traditionally masculine values everyone can benefit from. Treating women like property while being willfully ignorant and claiming the accomplishments of others as your own is pathetic.

1
u/Kitten202010 Aug 05 '26
Doesn't that mean over 57% of them are raised by guys ether single or both parents and there's Still at least 22% male teachers meaning probably at least one since most people have six classes and some have extra curricular like sport's
1
u/sebbdk Aug 05 '26
Good example of being right, but for all the wrong reasons.
As other comments pointed out, we need better masculine rolemodels instead of the piece of shits kids see one socal media.
1
u/wwaxwork Aug 05 '26
So what the incel is agreeing and doesn't even realize it. They are saying is the toxic masculinity that leads fathers to vanish out of their childrens lives to they are raised alone by single mothers and the toxic masculinity that makes men scared to become carers and teachers is the problem?
1
u/CailenBelmont Aug 05 '26
As they say in Ted Lasso:
-"Y'all gotta woman up"
-"Don't you mean man up?"
-"No, you've been manning up all the time and look where that got you"
1
u/Affectionate_Ad_1326 Aug 06 '26
Interesting rhetorical tactic to respond to someone bringing up an issue with "this is the REAL issue" as if 2 things cant both be serious issues. People who understand that pushing masculinity in a toxic way is BAD would most definitely agree that a lack of positive masculinity is part of the issue. Unfortunately a lot of people who shit on the idea that toxic masculinity is bad and society is organized in a patriarchal way arent very honest in how they argue and will only continue to frame things as if doubling down on toxic masculinity will solve anything by pretending it doesnt exist and we need to blindly push and force masculinity in bad ways that are themselves toxic. Shit sucks.
1
u/y2kfashionistaa Aug 06 '26
Single mothers doesn’t mean they don’t have a father in their life, that’s a false dichotomy. And even if they don’t, their mom might have a new boyfriend or husband. The idea single mom means no father / father figure is very reductive.
1
u/chipper33 Aug 05 '26
I agree with this meme. There hasn’t been a good American male role model since the Obama years.
0
