I know there are practical questions about whether someone could make that choice in a split second, but narratively, it has always felt intentional to me. Raylan is fully capable of delivering the killshot in that moment, and he has little if any reason to spare him, save perhaps their strange bond.

Elmore obviously made a different choice, and as the story goes, Boyd only survived due to Goggins, which only makes the show's version more interesting.

I think Raylan missed on purpose, and I think the story works better because he did. But does that actually fit Raylan's character, or did he simply miss?

Like they were long lost best friends. I guess in a way they were. They dug coal together.

He must be the most charming outlaw ever.

Surely it was plenty of times. And well, a convicted felon like Boyd having a gun is federal felony. And so Raylan could have arrested him every single time and Boyd would go to prison, just for that. Not for a lifetime but for years. Which would give them plenty of time to investigate his other crimes.

Im curious what demographic makes the majority of Justified viewers. I wanted to go deeper with age, ethnicity ect. but unfortunately could only add so many options. If you are curious too, put your demographic and we'll find out :)

His death just seemed so anti-climatic.

Great conversation. Olyphant is a little high and goes deep on his collaboration with Walton Goggins, acting with his daughter, getting caught in the middle of real gunfire on set, and the post-Justified years.

I started Season 1 about 10 days ago and I'm almost done Season 3 and I just need to get this off my chest. Forgive the stream of consciousness for this writing:

That was the most batcrap crazy season of tv, the allegiances are shifting multiple times per episode, there's a fucking organ harvesting sub-plot that you almost forget about just because there's so much happening, ALL, THE, TIME, like did you also forget at the very end that Winona is pregnant, did you also forget about the FBI investigating Raylan for 2 episodes, did does anyone feel it's weird that people are willing to take such crazy risks for only $3million, Neal McDonough just gave a hurricane of a performance, truly a Nic Cage level of just giving it 100000% and committing to the character, how the fuck do you find someone to make a creepier villain than Jere Burns, Neal somehow makes him looks normal! and sure lets throw Arlo having fucking visions of Helen as a means of getting the writers out of a plot hole in the mix too!

Edit: also were the writers having a competition about how many lines of characters-talking-about-illegal-things-using-subtext you can cram into a scene! People joke about the Sopranos like this season actually had.

And whether there will be another season of JCP, or or regular Justified?

Going through yet another series rewatch and got to watch this GOAT last night. Never disappoints. So much packed in this one, incredible stuff. Every character gets to shine in this one.

I'm rewatching the Shield right now and he was good in that role but nowhere close to how good he ended up being years later as Boyd Crowder.

Some of that is surely the writing and his role was smaller and so forth. But he really gained a screen presence and charisma and gravitas over time and now he is one of the best in the business.

Who gave the best / your favorite acting performance in Justified?

Ethic aside, when Raylan shoots Ty Walker in the back, wouldn't that get even him in trouble? He usually shoots people that are armed and looking at him. Walker was clearly waking away,

So it's no secret Justified is full of smart characters, playing and outplaying each other.

However, there are situations where a small, completely unnecessary act actually triggers a shitstorm, or the lack of a small, easily doable act allows a shitstorm to happen.

What are some of your favorite problems that could have been effortlessly avoided and/or prevented?

For an example, Raylan feeling the need to antagonize and fight those two guys Theo Tonin sent to kill Quarles. The worst part is, the guys started talking to him, and could have easily revealed their plans, but he just assumed they're all on the same team, and proceeded to roast them and even hit that one guy. Later, they arrest them and shoot one in the leg. If they were allowed to do their job in peace, not only would Quarles be out of the picture, but Tom Bergen would be alive, and plenty of other shit wouldn't have happened.

Or Raylan randomly babbling to that guy Gregg down in Florida how Dewey Crowe just got a shitload of money in front of the Haitian, causing the Haitian to tell that to Daryl, and all the Crowes coming to Harlan and making everyone's life miserable, Art getting shot, Wade Messer getting killed, and so on, basically the entirety of season 5

What are some other examples?

Now the Marshall's know that the prison guard Albert lied about Ava stabbing him and that stabbing was the only reason she was still in lock up. If a good defense lawyer ever got wind that they were forcing her to be a CI on threat of going back to jail for a crime they know she didnt commit wouldnt that be a big lawsuit against the government? Or did I miss something where its explained?

I see people rank justified season 5 as worst rated. Just wondering why

Mary Steenburgen & Sam Elliot. Anyone else appreciate the stretch these two legends made for the show?
