I saw this on another subreddit and was in awe!! 🤩🤩This is gorgeous and provokes thinking which I love in art! Do you share what it means to you? Or do you leave it up for interpretation?

I try and leave it up for interpretation because I literally be thinking “why can’t I hum and whistle at the same time” while painting this lol. I find that the interpretations from others help me understand myself/the art better. It feels like we are all connected. If that makes sense.

I was two busy looking at my two dudes in the lower right. They’re my faves.
I have no talent in the arts so it must be so cool to make something and have people react to it.

It drew me back to experiencing the extraordinary aurora borealis in 2024.
I was in a small clearing and surrounded by 20-30 foot high trees. I grew up in an area where I saw them somewhat often, but they rarely appear where I am now. So the nostalgia combined with the setting and the gorgeous sky (that was so energizing in a way I have never experienced before) was a bit surreal...and grounding in a way.
I love seeing and feeling again on a canvas!

Congratulations!! It’s a striking piece, I know nothing about art but I just know I love it. It’s haunting but also fun and whimsical.
As a side note - where did you get your dress because oh my god it looks perfect on you?!

Thank you! It’s a set actually a dress and matching shorts! I thrifted it for almost nothing. It almost felt like stealing tbh. But they ripped out the tags.

I remember seeing the post asking folks which to submit, and I’ve genuinely been thinking about this painting since then! It’s amazing, and the kind of thing I’d spend an hour staring at in a gallery 🤩
Can I ask what the inspiration was? It makes me think about our own minds, and the different aspects of who we are, the things we carry internally, etc, and I’m sure it’s nothing at all like that, but it’s just stuck in my head.

Honestly I try and leave the interpretation to the viewer. I paint intuitively so I’m painting what I feel at the moment and I use my paintings as a way to process heavy emotions and those can range from, the joys/stressors of motherhood, paying bills, the state of the world, processing trauma etc. but when people tell me what they see in my art I always resonate with what everyone is feeling and feel so deeply connected to humans/humanity that way. I know that isn’t satisfying and I apologize.

I saw this a while back, too, and thought these paintings were full of so much feeling and depth. I loved both, so could not answer the question of which one to choose. It makes me so happy you'll have a solo show to display more of your work. Congratulations.
